New smudging style?

Yeah, felt like trying something new .-.

Not new as it just came out or revolutionary or anything like that, just a new smudging style for myself (in terms of how I create flow and such)

Doesn't really matter what is used when you are practising smudging, all that matters is that you practice:)

you have a nice flow going on here, it looks like you have darkened the edges with a soft brush(not sure if you have) but incase you did its not a good idea to do that in a smudge tag. The main reason for that is because it looks out of place, its better to smudge darker colours to get that edge darkening.

The way you have smudged this looks much better than the samus tag you did, its more just fine tuning what you have done by adding more smudge layers on top and using different blend modes. There are still a few wayward lines and a few that are a little bit out of place, but its great to see good improvement:)

Dude, I don't know .-. I liked the stock.

xDJust messing with you!
O.T:The only thing i could say is to never darken edges in a smudge sig!It just lowers your overall tag's image!Try doing some darker mixes when you want to change the light in the edges!

Both of you guys gave the same advice, so I'll take it you guys know what you're talking about. I just didn't really know how to attain even the slightest amount of depth with a smudge tag so I just thought darkening the edges was fine, next tag I make I'll be sure to make dark lines instead of just darkening it overall.

Thanks for the help guys.

To achieve depth in a smudge tag involves a lot of tinkering with darker lines and lighter lines, and also sharpening of some smudge layers. Btw never blur any smudging it looks terrible, and smudge a bit in front of the render as well:)

As beast said, play with the dark and light on edges of each part of the smudge, the idea is to accentuate things to make them pop, and let others fade (think about running your finger through dirt, the dirt builds up on the edges and ur finger leaves an indent in the middle, if u push harder u go deeper and get more dirt, etc)
Also colours would need some work IMO
Big things with smudgies like this is to try and use some c4d that can bring highlights to the edges of the smudge (the dirt build up)

hope this helps!
