The studio announced today that Benedict Cumberbatch will indeed be playing Stephen Strange in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Dr. Strange adaptation. (Thanks to The Wrap for the heads up!)
Said Marvel producer extraordinaire, Kevin Feige:

Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.​

I'm happy with this. I can't remember all the films he's been in but I like him as an actor. I can see him playing the quirky Dr. Strange well. Can't wait til this one comes out!
