Okay, I'll cut to the chase.

I have to get braces this Wednesday and I am completely scared of how the process will go, but what will happen after.

Basically, this is for anyone who has/had braces and understands my questions.

1.) What do they do to put the braces in? (ex: numb my mouth? where does the wire go?)

2.) Do I start off what a default color or do I get to choose?

3.) How does it feel after first getting them?

4.) What can I eat when they are in?

5.) How many time do I have to get them checked on a year?

I'll leave it at that.

Its going to be a living hell the first week, every single time you bite something you skull will feel like its cracking and you have to go to the dentist more than twice a year for checkups and to see how the braces have moved your teeth. Good luck YOU WILL NEED IT.

1) They don't need to numb you're mouth. They will cement each piece on you're teeth, It doesn't hurt.

2)Afterwards they will ask you what color bands you want and they will use those bands to attach the wire

3) At first it just feels really weird. It will start to hurt later on. You will get used to them after a few days.

4)At first you won't be able to chew anything. Yes it will suck, sorry. You will gradually get used to it and after a few days you will be able to eat almost normally. You shouldn't eat gum or very hard candy or chew ice. Apart from that you can eat most things.

5) Ask your orthodontist, but it will be about once a month

1.) What do they do to put the braces in? (ex: numb my mouth? where does the wire go?)
no numb , no nothing , they just work & the wires go on the braces of course that will be stick on your teeth .

2.) Do I start off what a default color or do I get to choose?
I believe you get to decide the color of your choosing .

3.) How does it feel after first getting them?
It depends , but for me it was painful , I couldn't eat , bite etc .....even lost weight , in other words ....it's hell .

4.) What can I eat when they are in?
You will be able to eat normally after a couple of days or weeks , but at first you'll probably have to eat soups etc .

5.) How many time do I have to get them checked on a year?
You go in every month I believe , don't really remember about this one .

My answers are above ^ .

Even though this didn't answer the questions, I made me laugh. I hope it happened to me, I just wanna pick my colors and go to sleep.

Guess I'm going vegetarian for 2 weeks lol

Welcome to hell Lol jk, having braces isn't that bad; had 'em for two years.

1. First, they put spacers in if you need them (and they ****ing hurt like a ***** xD). Then, they put four on each of your molars. A few days later or so, the orthodontist puts these goggles on you; and then they actually start putting them on. They put some type of gluey cement on your teeth right before the . Then, they put the wire in and tighten the shit out of it via dental pliers. Finally, they might place rubber bands in your mouth if you need them and then you're done.

2. Not sure about your dentist, but yeah I got to choose. Black or clear is the best to get though, imo.

3. I'm sure anyone will say they hurt like hell, because they do. You won't be able to eat solid food for like 2 weeks and remotely soft food for at least 3 weeks.

4. The dentist will give you a list on what to eat and what not to eat (though tbh I didn't listen to them xD). Once the pain goes away, you can eat almost anything.

5. You get them tightened biweekly or so. But once they tightened it once or twice, it doesn't really hurt the next time you get them tightened.

Yeah, I was most likely going to go with black and white or orange and white. But, damn... If I don't post in 4 weeks, I've died of hunger.

Mashed potatoes, soup, cream of wheat, ice cream, and stuff like that are good to eat in the first few weeks.
Also, don't drink soda; they wear out the metal and can make it break.

Yup , pretty much , but it won't last more than a week , so don't worry .

I mean, a good way to look at it is that I'll be able to start losing some weight. I don't drink soda anyways, primarily water. So if I'll be eating little I'll just add some exercise.

Oh it sucks. they will first stretch your mouth to make a mold of your teeth; if they haven't done that already. and there is this little light gun thing that they prep your teeth with, to stick the the brackets on. and the combination of trying to stay still, opening your mouth as wide as you can, and that bright light gun heat, is awful. it's not exactly painful as it is an uncomfortable heated pressure on your jaw. of course the my orthedontist (however that is spelld); when i had mine done, was old. so im not sure if that was just extra work for my case. everything else is as everyone else said.

Oh! and god help your cheeks if the wire isn't tight enough and it get's pushed back.

edit: no wait; it was the molding agent that gets hot from the lights. i don't recall. i just remember a part that really stressed my jaw.

edit: no wait. i remember now it was this mouth proper thing that stretches your mouth and gets really heated.

I had braces from 11th grade till graduation.

1.) Brackets
2.) You choose.
3.) Very awkward, you may even get some of your teeth pulled out if the braces can't fit. (Happened to me)
4.) Anything besides anything that can break potentially break them likes chips, candy (jawbreakers), etc.
5.) At least every month I believe. It's just a simple checkup to see if any brackets are loose.
