Alright, so in review before we start, what all can you remember about the Sharingan and it's powers? Be as thorough as possible in regards to the Genjutsu related fields.
The Sharingan has three main abilities: Perception, Copying, and Illusions.
The Sharingan gives the user a heightened sense of perception. Movements that are normally two fast or complicated for the human eyes appear in slow motion to a user of the Sharingan. By viewing the opponent's movement in great detail, a slight premonition is given to the user, where they can predict what the opponent can do by tracking their sequence of movement. This gives the user an advantage in close combat, as well as allowing other risky techniques such as the Chidori and Raikiri to be used by negating the linear charge because the user can predict their opponent's movement and move themselves accordingly.
The second ability of the Sharingan is the ability to copy jutsu and movement. Another advantage in close combat, the user can copy the opponent's basic physical movements, allowing them to do exactly what the opponent is doing and to counter effectively. Using the power to see the opponent's chakra, the user can see how much chakra is needed for certain techniques, and how to use that chakra. They can then copy the movement of their hands while the opponent is performing handseals. If they have the required chakra, the chakra nature, and the skill to use a technique of that level, as well as the physical and biological capabilities of using it and knowledge of the technique, the user can copy the technique for that moment.
The third and arguably strongest ability relates to Genjutsu. Called the hypnotic eye, a user of an eye with three tomoes can cast powerful illusions by using eye contact with the opponent as a medium for their chakra to pass through. These illusions have the benefit of being able to be used quickly. The Sharingan also gives the user the ability to pierce through techniques. By seeing their own chakra flow become erratic and disturbed, the user can become aware he is in a Genjutsu. Then, by channeling chakra into their eyes, they can "see" through the visual genjutsu, breaking it. This however, only works on B-rank and below Genjutsu.
Sharingan Genjutsus are certainly powerful, that much is clear. But all of them do not require eye contact, those most do. The way this is theorized to work is that with regular genjutsu, one must generally form handseals to initiate the Genjutsu, molding the chakra for this illusion through the seals. The mediums for genjutsu differ greatly, a large portion of them being visually triggered, such as looking at the user or a specific object. Some others are triggered through hearing a sound ( Namely Sound Genjutsu ), and even others are triggered through sense of Smell, Touch, and Lili has even tried to extend this to the sense of Taste with her submitted CC. With most Sharingan Genjutsus, this medium is Visual, requiring the user to able to cast a genjutsu through eye contact alone, however not all do this. A specific one that doesn't require eye contact would be (Doujutsu: Shiranui) - Eye Technique: Phosphorescent light. This one is triggered by having a line of vision with the target, being able to physically see him.
Shisui was a master of Sharingan Genjutsu and his Mangekyou Sharingan was shown capable of using Sharingan Genjutsu to great effect, able to cast Genjutsus on others without them even being aware of it, or without them even being able to see it, demonstrated by Danzo when he trapped Mifune in a genjutsu without him even being aware of it happening during the Five Kage Summit Arc. What that specific quote likely meant was that due to Shisui being hailed as the greatest Genjutsu user of the Uchiha, his prowess with it was so great that he was able to cast a Sharingan Genjutsu from greater ranges than others, possibly even normal Genjutsu as well. This however does not mean that normal Genjutsu is able to be cast through greater ranges than Mid range in the RP. Genjutsu is confined to Mid range whereas Sharingan Genjutsus, some of them anyway, have the possibility of being used at Long Range. The Sharingan is able to pierce through Visual Genjutsus as well as reverse other genjutsus cast upon the user. Starting with the first, Visual Genjutsus, are genjutsus that take on a Visual trait primarily. This means that Genjutsus that primarily are used to alter your sense of sight and what you are able to Visually interpret are considered Visual Genjutsus. Sharingans are able to break through this visual illusion with ease, due to their natural "piercing" abilities, allowing the user to see through it. How this is achieved isn't an exact science but we reason it to be along the lines of simply focusing your vision once you have reasoned it is an illusion and piercing through it with ease, an instinctive and relatively quick process, taking next to no time in the timeframe and being passively achieved. However, this is only viable for Visual Genjutsus. As for other Genjutsus that plague the mind, should you reason it to be a Genjutsu, you are able to reverse the genjutsu itself, though we will touch on this in greater detail later. Also, note my point about casting Genjutsu through the Sharingan above, it doesn't increase the range.
With that said, any questions before we move on to the jutsus themself?
(Doujutsu: Chouetsu no Shunmin) – Eye Technique: Transcend to Deep Slumber technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user will use their Sharingan to cast an illusion upon the opponent by looking them into their eyes; this illusion makes the enemy fall asleep but makes them think they are still watching the opponent without realizing they have fallen asleep.
Note: Requires direct eye contact with tomoe 3 Sharingan.
Relatively easy to understand, you lock eyes with a target and use your Sharingan to cast a genjutsu that makes them think they are still watching you while not realizing they have fallen asleep. It's easy to understand and utilize, which makes it even better, however the range somewhat ruins/limits it greatly.
*I take a deep breath, and channel chakra through my body up to my eyes. I use it to activate my Sharingan, my eyes turning blood red and three tomoe appearing around my pupil. I quickly move within short range of my opponent and look into his eyes. The moment I look into his eyes, I use my Sharingan to transmit my own chakra into his body using our eye contact as the medium. Once the chakra enters his brain, I configure it to affect his brain, as all Genjutsu do, triggering his neurontransmitters to fire in the specific order to cause his body to fall asleep. His heart rate slows down, his muscles relax and his eyes shut, his body asleep. However, my chakra also trigger a mental image in his head, causing him to think he's actually awake and seeing me standing in front of him.*
Good, now any questions on usage? I encourage them as it leads to better understanding of it on both ends. How would you combine this with Taijutsu? Ninjutsu?
How long does the technique last, and how would you recommend countering it once it has been set?
With Taijutsu, I'd use it as a main course while using Taijutsu as a decoy. What I mean by this is, since I am not very adept in Taijutsu(only of the basics I have to to master), close combat fights aren't very ideal for me. As such, if I do engage in close combat, I would do so in a way to get me close to the opponent, naturally, so I can implement this technique. Under the guise of starting a Taijutsu fight, the opponent would prepare themselves for Taijutsu, and may let down their guard for the Genjutsu, which I can apply at close range. Once the opponent is asleep, I can the physically beat them or hit them with a strong Ninjutsu to finish them off.
It lasts until the opponent is able to realize it is a genjutsu and then break it before they are forced asleep. If they can't break it in the first turn, they are basically knocked out and asleep. And countering it is very situational; sometimes the opponent won't have a clear chance to counter it as a skilled opponent could weave this with is bio talking and doing other small actions while not attacking, making it hard to even notice it has been triggered. Though, in most battles, the opponent will be doing an aggressive act before using, such as releasing jutsu, running around, moving, etc. Once the jutsu is triggered, the opponent is seen as standing still as the body falls asleep. This contrast can be seen as something is not right, as it doesnt make sense for an aggressive foe to suddenly stop attacking and just stand.
And yeah, those uses are pretty much what it is ideal for. RP wise, it is also beneficial to use in missions against opponents that are unsuspecting to try to force them to sleep so one can continue the mission easier, though metagaming will prevent this from being very useful.
Now, in order to speed training and make it actually useful, I grouped Sharingan genjutsus into classes. They can be best divided into Genjutsus of similar groups instead of the repetitive grinding of the same ones over and over.
The first are the Sharingan Genjutsus that do not require direct eye contact, but rather a line of sight of the opponent. A large portion of these genjutsus are designed to incapacitate the foe while not causing direct damage to them in most cases. These methods include binding, and paralyzation
None Eye Contact Requiring Genjutsu:
(Doujutsu: Shiranui) - Eye Technique: Phosphorescent light
Rank: C
Type: Offensive, Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: 30
Description: The user will cast an illusion to make the opponent see six copies of the user that detonate simultaneously harming the target. The explosions are explosive kunai to deal damage whilst the enemy is distracted in the genjutsu.
Note: Requires tomoe 3 sharingan.
Relatively easy to cast, you cast the illusion that there are suddenly 6 of you that attack him by exploding. What really happens is you throw explosive kunai hidden by the genjutsu. It doesn't require eye contact, but it does require the 3 Tomoe Sharingan to be active.
(Bōshi Genjutsu: Koukon Karasu) – Illusionary Eye Technique: Dusk Crow
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Mid
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: This is an advanced Sharingan technique the user traps the enemy in an illusion without any eye contact, similar to Ephermal. The Genjutsu traps the victim in a torrent of crows, leaving them at the users mercy.
I can't find the exact scene it was found in the anime, but I have a picture of it below. Under the picture is a varied usage of it by Itachi in a game. It can be seen at 1:43 - 1:54.
(Bōshi Genjutsu: Utakata) - Illusion Eye Technique: Ephemeral
Rank: B
Type:Supplementary
Range:Short-Mid
Chakra Cost:20
Damage Points:40
Description: An illusion were the user simple points at the target and if the target glances at the pointing hand they fall into a genjutsu where they first see birds and then they turn to kunai that attack them. They are future damaged by being tortured by images of there friend insulting them.
Note:This is an advanced sharingan genjutsu.
A genjutsu that Itachi used against Naruto with the aim of causing him to pass out. He pointed his hand and caused a flock of crows to fly towards Naruto, that swiftly turn into shuriken that pierce the target and slash him, causing pain. As this happens, the pain is intended to break the target's concentration and fall asleep. However, they likely won't and will stay woke, trying to resist the genjutsu. As this happens, they see their body parts changing into the faces and bodies of their old friends and allies, tormenting and ridiculing them. This mental torture is used with the goal of causing the enemy to pass out and faint in the genjutsu while forcing them to sleep in the real world. A vid link is below that shows how it looks when used.

(Doujutsu: Chuubo no Yuuku) – Eye Technique: Paralyzing Fear
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short – Mid
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user will cast a Genjutsu upon the target in which they will see a shadowy figure appear infront of them bearing the Sharingan and then the figure will grow to an enormous size over shadowing the target in pitch-black darkness. The figure will then grab hold of the target and then will cover them in black threads, leaving them paralyzed for a period of time. (This was shown by sasuke against Shi)
Note: Must have tomoe 3 to use and paralyzing effects last 1 turn.
By having a line of sight to the foe, you cast a genjutsu on them that causes them to see a massive figure in front of them that bears the Sharingan. This figure grabs the target and causes paralyazation to come into effect for a turn.
( Dōjutsu: Jigokuken ) - Eye Technique: Sword Hell
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Descrption: The user casts the illusion upon the opponent where the surroundings similary to Tsukiyomi go black and white and swords then begin levitating around the user and the opponent spinning around before the user then manipulates the swords to peirce the opponents body. The initial attack causes mental damage and temporarily paralyses the opponents body restricting their overall performance. (paralysing lasts 1 turn)
Note: Can only be used with tomo 3 sharingan.
Similar to the above, you cause the opponent to see several swords around them this time, all of which pierce the body and prevent movement while causing mental damage ( this should be edited to reflect this btw ) and 1 turn paralyzation as well.
(Doujutsu: Hazumi no Reikon) - Eye Technique: Bound by Soul Technique
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user will cast a genjutsu that immobilizes the target. In the genjutsu the target is bound to a leaf spinning around in the dark. This technique temporarily binds the target leaving them open to attack. (this technique is shown when sasuke tried to bind killer bee in genjutsu but to ill effect from being released by his bijuu).
Note: Must have tomo 3 sharingan and bind lasting 1 turn.
Once more, as you see, this Genjutsu also incapacitates the enemy for a single turn, this time bound to a leaf spinning in the dark.
You can see the similarities between all of these rather easily.
(Doujutsu: Shiranui) - Eye Technique: Phosphorescent light
Rank: C
Type: Offensive, Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: 30
Description: The user will cast an illusion to make the opponent see six copies of the user that detonate simultaneously harming the target. The explosions are explosive kunai to deal damage whilst the enemy is distracted in the genjutsu.
Note: Requires tomoe 3 sharingan.
This technique, despite being weak, is pretty advantageous. By disguising the kunai that you are throwing as six clones, the opponent wouldn't prepare themselves properly. They may think they are facing Shadow Clones and start preparing a technique to counter clones, leaving them wide open for the Kunai. My question is, do the illusionary clones move towards the opponent since they are disguising the kunai?
(Bōshi Genjutsu: Koukon Karasu) – Illusionary Eye Technique: Dusk Crow
Rank: B

Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: This is an advanced Sharingan technique the user traps the enemy in an illusion without any eye contact, similar to Ephermal. The Genjutsu traps the victim in a torrent of crows, leaving them at the users mercy.
Well, the usage of this technique is pretty straightforward, the crows' presence removes the enemy's ability to focus on the user. The opponent would shift their focus on getting rid of the clones, leaving themselves open for attack. While performing this technique, I'd personally weave fake signs and pretend I'm summoning actual crows while really instilling this jutsu, making it even harder for my opponent to make an effective counter.

This one is pretty out there in terms of what it does xD. I'd personally try to use it within close range to get a better chance of the opponent looking at my finger. If I can't do so, I'd weave fake seals, like Dusk Crow. As he is observing my hands, I'd point my finger at him suddenly, allowing me to place the illusion.

The use of this technique is pretty straightforward, a supplementary technique to paralyze the opponent, I'd use it as a combo technique, first step to paralyze them with this and then attack them.

MY favorite from the list so far. This technique has the same advantage of the others of being able to paralyze the opponent with the added benefit of damaging them. A good way to capitalize on this technique is by launching a another attack that hits just as the Genjutsu does its own damage, damaging the opponent two ways at once.

Nothing much stands out to me about this to be honest. I personally figured it was Tsukiyomi in the manga, I am surprised to see it's a 3 Tomoe Sharingan.

Well, it varies; in some instances, if done in short range for example. It can appear as if the clones are around the target and explode as they swarm him from all around. Or it can appear as if they are besides the user and then rush towards the target, so yes they move towards the opponent, the method dependent on how the kunais are thrown.

Yeah, it would appear as a summoning has been summoned but remember that it inverts the opponent's surroundings, which would make it easier to signify a genjutsu is used.

To me the best way of using this is to for example start counting something with your fingers or an action that seems like he is meaningless, even pointing at the foe and telling them they have something on them would make one naturally look at the finger that is pointing and then the area it's pointing at. Outside of that, it's best used in short range with taijutsu to make it easier to chain with a more offensive attack.

Well, in some forums, there is a small debate over whether it was Sasuke's Tsukiyomi, but weaker, or if it was this jutsu. In the wiki, it was listed as this, so we assume it to be Bound by Soul Technique.
Now, any other general or specific questions about None eye contact requiring genjutsu?
Alright, next are Sharingan Genjutsu that require eye sight. These are the harder ones to pull off, but often more rewarding and powerful compared to the last group I taught you. Some of these, as you may notice, have the ability to affect long range foes.
(Bōshi Magen: Kyouten Chiten) - Demonic Eye Illusion: Heaven And Earth Change
Rank:C-S
Range:Short-Long
Chakra Cost: N/A (equal to the cost of the countered technique)
Damage Points:N/A (equal to the power of the countered technique)
Description:This is a illusion counter were, through the use of their sharingan, an Uchiha can take control over an enemy illusionary techniques and reverse it back into the opponent by taking control of it and releasing oneself at the same time. With 1 Tomoe, it can affect C-Rank and below illusions. With 2 Tomoe it can affect B-Rank and bellow illusions. With a 3 Tomoe, it can affect A-Rank and below illusions. With MS/EMS it can affect S-Rank and bellow illusions. Can only be used once every two turns.
Pretty epic, this is useful in battles when a genjutsu has been placed upon you. After first realizing you are indeed in a genjutsu through whatever method you have available ( sentient armors, outside sources confirming it, reasoning, Sharingan if visual genjutsus, etc ), you channel chakra and whatever illusion was afflicting you will be reversed onto them. The main issue I have with it is that it states the various levels it can be used at, yet Sharingan genjutsu can only be learned at 3 Tomoe level, making 1T and 2T parts pointless. Anyway, as this is 3T training, your Sharingan will be able to reverse up to A ranked and below illusions and cast the enemy themselves under their own illusion. There is debate over whether eye contact is needed to cast this or not, aswhen ITachi used it, he was looking up at Kurenai but there is no clear indicator that he was looking into her eyes and vice versa. For now, until a consensus is reached, assume that eye contact is needed.
( Doujutsu: Genjutsu Sharingan ) - Eye Technique: Copy Wheel Eye Illusion
Rank: C - S
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15 - 40
Damage points: N/A
Description: This technique is simply the use of generic genjutsu used by members of the Uchiha clan. By simply having their opponents look into their eyes, the Uchiha can lock the user within a genjutsu of their choosing.
Note: Can only be used with 3 tomoe sharingan
Possibly, the best Sharingan genjutsu there is. its used to make pretty much any genjutsu the user wishes "given that it's logical enough" through eye contact, yes, any genjutsu you want can be done by this technique, it doesn't mean posting a technique, only using your imagination to create a genjutsu, it doesn't mean that you have to use a cannon genjutsu through eye contact, the technique itself is a genjutsu, but the condition to meet for it is hard, which is mutual eye contact. The usage for this technique can vary, given that there are different types of genjutsu, it can be used as one to deceive your opponent, or paralyze them using chains or similar means, it can go as far as to control your opponent's movements and force them to do something "one of the Sharingan genjutsu's abilities", which is why custom Sharingan genjutsu is banned from submission, this technique compensates for that.
(Bōshi Magen: Nenshou Kamihada ) Demonic Eye Illusion: Burning Paper Body
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Long
Chakra Cost: 25
Damage: N/A
Description: A sharingan Genjutsu, it requires eye contact with the opponent. The opponent is then made to believe that their body is made of paper and is burning, reducing their dexterity of movement, stopping them from performing handseals.
Note: Requires three tomoe Sharingan and eye contact
Itachi performed this in the anime and it was unnamed at the time, just known as an unspecified generic Sharingan genjutsu. This is one of the various jutsus they used. Looking at the foe's eyes, you trap them in this genjutsu where they believe their limbs are paper and as such, are scared to move their bodies much due to this fear.
(Bōshi Magen: Ketataumo ) Demonic Eye Illusion: Piercing Feathers
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Long
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage: N/A
A weaker version of Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes, it makes the opponent believe that numerous black feathers have pierced their body and trapped them, causing them pain and immobility.
Note: Requires two tomoe Sharingan and eye contact to use
I've done some research on most of the Sharingan gens but fail to find much information regarding this one on the wiki, manga, video games, and anime. It exists in some medium but I have yet to locate it. But anyway...it's essentially a genjutsu created through eye contact, that causes them to believe a lot of feathers have pierced the body and trapped them, causing them mental pain and preventing movement.
(Bōshi Magen: Kasegui no Jutsu) - Demonic Eye Illusion :Shackling Stakes
Rank: A
Type:Supplementary
Range: Close
Chakra Cost:30
Damage Points: N/A
Description:A Genjutsu technique unique to the Uchiha bloodline Sharingan holders. After activating their Sharingan, the clan member will look into the eyes of their target to bind them with a paralyzing illusion. This illusion takes the form of giant spikes which stake them in place and restrict their movement. A powerful enough ninja will be able to fight the bind to give themselves an opportunity to gain freedom.
Note: Requires Tomo 3 sharingan.
Pretty much an advanced version of Piercing Feathers, you lock eyes and bind them in an illusion where they are bound by giant spikes that pierce them in lock them into place. A ninja of high enough rank (read: higher rank) will be able to fight the binding off and move while the spikes are pierced through them, though to little effect if you cause them to pierce the right places, like joints of the limbs.
(Doujutsu: Kopī no Jutsu) - Eye Technique: Copy Technique
Rank: E-S
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra cost: N/A
Damage points: N/A
Description: After gaining the 3 Tomoe Sharingan, the user gains the ability to copy the technique the enemy is using and use it as his own. The user will first need to witness the technique completely to memorize all aspects of it, including the opponents chakra flow and focus upon using it as well as the hand seals. A limitation of the technique is the inability to mimic and copy KG techniques, fuuinjutsu, kinjutsu, genjutsu, medical ninjutsu or hidden clan/bio techniques.
Note: User needs to have 3 Tomoe active
Note: Can only be done 2 times per battle on techniques that have hand seals
Note: Copied technique can only be used in the match its witnessed and only once
Note: User needs to be capable of performing the technique himself, meaning he needs to have the correct chakra natures, rank, abilities, etc to use the technique. This is also valid for elemental specialties, where the user might be unable to copy a technique by only one handseal unless he has the same specialty as the enemy.
Note: Can only be used on techniques up to S-Rank
Fairly straightforward in it's description, this jutsu allows you to use jutsu that your Sharingan sees being performed, as long as you meet the requirements to use it. For example, if you see someone performing Water Dragon, you are able to copy this jutsu perfectly if they perform the full list of hand seals, but if a Water specialist performs it with one seal, you will likely be unable to use it as you may not have the same one seal Water specialty. The user is also unable to copy jutsus for abilities they do not have, such as KGs, Doujutsus, EIG, etc. In most cases, it has very little cannon use as we all know the same cannon jutsu. It counts as a move from your 3 per turn but not as a time frame event. You need to post the technique in the move after the jutsu you want to copy, noting that you copied it. However, once you copied it, you're free to use it during that fight afterwards. The restriction in terms of number of times and the fact that it can't be used outside the battle it was witnessed was to prevent people from copying other peoples cjs and gain them indefinitely which would lead to complaints. This way you can still copy them but you can only use them in that single fight.
