Boss summons n chakra

Do boss summons need chakra or do they only require blood?
Because if I recall Naruto only used blood and summoned a tadpole.
But when he put more chakra into he summoned a boss.

Arguing with him about it now I say it only requires trust and blood but I'm a bit confused, need some clarification.

Kishi has been really inconsistent with showing the requirements for summoning but i'm pretty sure it still requires a contract, blood, and chakra. The rinnegan seems to be a special exception though because no blood is used.

Naruto sucked at molding chakra and that's why he was summoning tadpoles in the beginning. If he molded chakra more effectively then he could have summoned something bigger. Boss summons just require a ton of chakra like Jiraiya said.

from wikia it states that he couldnt form hand seals not that he couldnt use chakra.. are either me or Xerotes right or wrong?

youu should know that a ninjutsu needs chakra

With Katsuyu blood is needed, chakra isn't because her power is and extension of the seal. Which is why she isn't bound by the time restrictions of the summoning jutsu as her brethren
