Surprisingly some interesting stuff and hints have slipped through the cracks while everyone was raging at the art. Talking more specifically about this page from the manga
Nobody seems to notice that Boruto puts on his forehead a scratched headband. But if you look closer you can notice that headband is actually not Sasuke's headband that he gave him at the end of the Boruto movie. The scratch on Boruto's headband is rougher compared to Sasuke's and the headband is of a different color.
Now that I have established that point I believe Boruto left the village some time after the events of the Boruto movie. The most likely reasons would be his bad relationship with his dad and his resentment of ninjas. I believe later in the manga we will get introduced to a villain that, much like Orochimaru, is looking to take advantage of ninjas looking for power to use in his experiments (in this case the tattoo that Kawaki and Boruto share). And he much like Oro did with Sasuke, convinces them to leave the village to grow in strength. The scar he has and the Byakugan might be from battles with search parties sent to bring them back to the village, similar to the Sasuke Retrieval Arc.
