I feel like boruto got his byakugan from mitsuki when he was in sage mode because it looks exactly the same soo maybe mitsuki died and gave it to boruto . Its possible

My theory is that there was no theory. They just wanted him to look good with the kakashi scar to boost his kudos ratings; because ultimately he should have been able to unlock the byakugan anyway, just like his baby sister; rather than needing a curse mark or an eye transplant.

Edit: A devolved tenseigan with the help of sage or curse mark is plausable, seeing as he carries the genes of both Ashura and Hamura.
