> Is the novel canon?

Depends on your view of canon, while the book is the novelization of the movie script, the author has indeed changed scenes and has interpreted their own personal ideas for this novel. For instance (giving a small example to wrap this up), in chapter 2 it stated that Boruto threw shuriken in the back of Sasuke's head, and Sasuke took this as a prank and stopped him after dodging it.

In the Movie Boruto actually waits for Sasuke to walk past him and he comes out of a transformation jutsu and attacks him.

I'm merely just enjoying things that weren't portrayed clearly, as in the actions and thoughts of the character, their inner monologue you could say.

Though I can guarantee that lines from what the characters say in quotations are most likely in the movie. They haven't changed those yet. At least I haven't found it.

Sasuke’s words had a silent, but powerful warmth.
“…Sasuke-occhan, why did you bother with someone like me?”
“You’re really a strong shinobi.” Sasuke said. “I lost to your dad, but you can become a man who’ll surpass him.”
“…How can you say something like that?!”
These words were completely different from Katasuke’s flattery. These words were extremely heavy. That was how Boruto finally understood the true weight behind beating his dad.
“You’re his son, and furthermore by best disciple, aren’t you? And most importantly, you…”
For one second, Boruto thought he was going to cry.
This man was still calling him his disciple.
Him, who’d fought with borrowed power instead of the skills he’d been taught by his master.
“You’re even more of an usuratonkachi than Naruto was.”
“…by usuratonkachi…you mean…?”
“Someone who hates to lose.”
…That was right.
He still hadn’t lost yet.

A large majority of the movie lines in the script haven't been changed. At least I haven't seen it yet, I made a note of that in the spoiler to answer questions beforehand.

We'll see. Shouldn't matter much, Sasuke did say he lost in the Manga. That's what he felt afterwards despite it being a physical draw.

I started to realize that the movie script was the same when we got footage and the words the character said (not the actions) correlated with the script. For example, Boruto stating he can use three elemental natures and shadow clones without training.
