Here's why Boruto is getting BM from his father:

Ever since Mitsuki Gaiden, we got the impression that Boruto represent the sun which Orochimaru had noted that Mitsuki is the Moon that illuminate the darkness as long as he stayed Boruto at his side.

And with the promotional art, Kishi drew the concept of the Sun&Moon with Boruto Kyuubi cloak and Mitsuki Sage mode. We all know that the kyuubi is the yang attribute like Naruto so it shouldn't be surprising that Boruto will attain that power at some point.
Especially Boruto design look way more badass than his father.
