Of course they're going to retcon that or do you really think those two no-name placeholder character are going to be Metal's team mates until the end of the series?
They didn't even appeared in the manga chapter 16 where we saw Metal without his two movie mates so they probably set up things for Iwabe&Denki to appear as his team members in the manga.
