Lets face it. the old team 7 are kinda weird with Sakura being usless, Sasuke being a jerk and Naruto being annoying. Naruto is a great Anime but it's not because of the main cast of charaters lets be real. what made Naruto great was the lore and the action.

Now this is why Boruto will be better then the old show. all the main cast are mary sues. with none of the annoying stuff of part 1 Naruto fart wins or Sasuke filp flops. the people doing Boruto know what works at this point and will make a better show they are even doing tons of filler on the lesser known ninjas like shikadai and chocho meaning they will be more popular as well. leading to what makes the show great the lore and the action.

now just something to think about here. Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki are way stronger then then old team 7 was. just think about this. Sarada was able to solo a girl who was the doughter of someone who was able to solo Naruto, Rock Lee, Neji, and Tenten at once. there is no question she is stronger then Sakura given she has all of Sakura abliys even 100 healings (wait for it) meaning Sarada is on some Itachi level shit. then that brings us to Boruto. right from the start he fights someone Kagura level. something that took Naruto his whole manga to be able to do. I mean it's clear Boruto out shines Naruto even with his 9-tails and sage mode. then we have mitsuki who has sage mode at the age of 12 and is able to fight orochimaru who is reguarded as the strongest of the sanin and Mitsuki is prob stronger as Orochimaru was never able to learn sage mode. meaning the new team 7 is stronger then the strongest ninjas from the 1st show.

You can't compare the two teams...I think there's just such a lack of development when it comes to the new team 7, so spontaneous too.

I agree with the idea that neo team 7 are more skilled in the ninja arts but they are kind of boring. Mitsuki is the only interesting one. Sarada is just copy paste of her parents that automatically inherited the Uchiha hype. Boruto lacks character and his motivations within the universe are weak, can't invest in his character like you could with Naruto.

With that said, i do hope as the story continues they continue to improve the storytelling further

The only characters I actually didn't like in the original K11 was Ino and Sakura. They were both the most annoying and weak characters for a while. Other than that, everyone else was interesting enough to me and were reasonable personality wise. Let's just look at team 7 since they were the ones with the most screen time. Naruto was trying to be acknowledged by everyone, so he was loud and obnoxious. Sasuke was mentally scarred with the genocide of his whole clan and didn't want any more bonds, so was he "a jerk". Sakura was literally the only character that irked me.. I guess because she was a pre-teen girl, she had to be boy crazy and a crier? Such a waste.

Then we get to the other characters, right?

Shikamaru; Very smart, but a total joke of a character (not in a bad way) that's supposed to be a ninja. Who's heard of a lazy ninja up until Shikamaru? Choji; Unique clan techs we only see him use (no other clan members were really shown compared to other main clans); he was also another joke of a character (again not in a bad way). Who's ever heard of a fat ninja before him? Both of these characters are parodies of what a ninja should be... so when they are not fighting, they bring comedic relief.

Ino. She has the whole Sakura thing at first, but then dies down as only taunting her. Her only role is to be Sakura's childhood rival. She's annoying for the most part, but so was Sakura.

Kiba, was supposed to be an even crazier Naruto as far as being a loudmouth goes. It's nice to have someone who's just a loud mouth meathead in a cast of characters.

Shino brought the bluntness and mystery to the K11.

Hinata brought the shyness and sweetness to the K11, and obvious (more so one sided) love interest for Naruto. One could also say she was comic relief with her fainting gags.

Lee brought awkwardness and teaches pet personality to K11. Was used for comic relief at times and a one sided love interest to Sakura.

Tenten was the mary sue straight up. Never did anything rude, weird, or wrong. Kind of a waste, but not disliked.

Neji was the badass of K11, brought a reserved seriousness to K11.

They all had a role, some more than others. Not all of them were annoying and those that were; it never lasted long enough for me to hate the whole cast. All of them for the most part have decent back stories as well. I'm not saying there were not faults with how the story was shown. I'm also not saying that Boruto hasn't fixed the mistake Naruto made in presenting the story (even if it seems like it's taking forever for main Arcs and plot to be shown). All I'm saying is that the OG K11 and team 7 are not going to be tossed aside as you're claiming they will/should be based on flaws that aren't really flaws for the most part. Boruto is gaining it's own charm for sure, but I'm not sure it will end up surpassing the old gen by leaps and bounds.

Honestly as of now we can't decide that . We're judging naruto which finished developing and had closure to its characters and boruto which hasn't even ended it's first main arc. A proper judgement is when Boruto completely ends
