I just read the manga and seen when he was fighting kawaki guy he actived sm when he opened his eye or was it the tattoo because it did move up at the sane time?? And what are those tattoo that him and kawaki got they didn't have them when they were young

Yea maybe... But the way it formed around his eye like frog SM and zoomed in on that eye had me thinking its something like that since nothing you said really change the look around your eyes but SM ..

Didn't they show a picture of him when they said boruto was getting a manga?? Idk I thought they did was a while ago tho

I need to edit that tho because I just seen a picture of him with no tattoo at all on his face maybe it grows like boruto do

Tbh this is the best explanation for bolts and kawakis tattoos especially in the NV.
The coloured panels showed the tattoos on bolt where blue and kawakis is red. Perhaps those scientists created an artificial SM.

Why didn't the author just give Boruto Sage Mode and come up with a way to improve it so that it becomes better than Naruto's normal sage mode?

When I saw Mistuki's SM, I thought that we would get senjutsu as the main power ups. Now I see that they'll mix science with jutsu and it kind of ruins it for me. It seems that there will be a lot of "Artificial Powerups" in the Boruto Manga.
