Chapter 21: "Let the Hollow out of the Bag"
The Teacher: I don't know what to do with those two.
Kat is sitting on the ground screaming, and Kalin is above her with lightning wings and a sword.
Nel: Kalin! Stop it right now!
Some of the nearby people were watching. Kalin looked at Nel then flew off away from the academy.
Kat: She could have killed me.
Nel: Are you okay, miss?
Kat(scared): She could have killed me, she can't be here anymore.
There was blood where Kalin was at. Nel holds out her hand to help her up.
Nel: I'm going to have a talk with her when I'm done teaching.
Ravi comes in.
Ravi: What happened?
Nel: I don't exactly know but it seems like Kalin attacked this girl here for some reason. I need you to go find her.
Ravi: Okay.
Ravi leaves in a swirl of ashes.
Nel(to Kat): What's your name?
Kat: My friends call me Kat.
Nel: Kat... Lets go back to the classroom, okay?
Kat nods. They walk back to the classroom.
Mitsuo: Are you okay Kat?
Kat: Yeah, I'm fine.
Kalin lands in the clearing. Ravi swirls in ashes to where Kalin is.
(Classroom)
Nel: Anyways, first I'm going to teach about the different classes of Hollow.
Nel points to the bottom of the chalkboard.
Nel: Does anyone know what class of Hollow this is?
Nobody answered. Kalin pulled a knife out of her lower arm.
Kalin: I should've seen it coming.
Kalin dropped the knife.
Ravi: Seen what coming?
Kalin turned around to face Ravi.
Kalin: Kat with the knife.
Kalin's lower arm is covered in blood.
Ravi: I'll take you to Grandmother.
(Classroom)
Nel: This is the lowest class of Hollow, the normal ones.
Nel points to the next class.
Nel: How about this one, does anyone know?
Kat raised her hand.
Nel: You know this one, Kat?
Kat unsure: Gillian. Is that right?
Nel: That is correct. Well done, Kat. Gillians, also called Menos Grande, are the first and weakest of all Menos. In Human terms, they would be considered foot soldiers. There are many of them, and they all look alike. In Soul Society, they are the "Menos" who are generally referred to in textbooks. Gillians are huge, but they are slow and have beast-like intellect. Any captain-level Shinigami can destroy them with ease.
Nel draws two masks.
Nel: Though Gillians usually have no personality to speak of, which makes them dangerous since they have no mind of their own,

Nel: Only these Gillian variants have the potential to evolve into Adjuchas-class Menos.
Nel points to the next class of Menos.
Nel: The evolution is facilitated by the continued cannibalization of fellow Hollows, even other Gillians.
Mitsuo: So the masks basically says what type of Menos they are?
Nel: Not exactly. But the masks do hint at their special abilities. When a Hollow's heart is carved out by the hole in their chests, the lost heart becomes its mask and changes its outward appearance to what it looks like as a Hollow. The powers a Hollow wields are manifestations of its heart.
Mitsuo: I don't follow.
Kat: Yeah, me either.
(Back with Kalin and Ravi)
Ravi: I'll take you to Grandmother.
Kalin: I'm not in trouble, am I?
Ravi: With Nel maybe, otherwise no, but you need your arm looked at.
(Classroom)
Nel: The shape of the mask determines the powers of a Hollow.
Kat: I heard from Linka that that the less of a mask a hollow has the more powerful it is.
Nel: That is true. Onto the next classification. Adjuchas-class Menos regain the ability to speak, and further develop their powers. If they are partially eaten by another Hollow, they cannot evolve any further. Plus if they do not continue to eat, they will regress back into Gillian permanently.
Mitsuo: So it's kill or be killed?
Nel: Yes.
Mitsuo: The numbers...Why do some Hollows have numbers on them?
Kat: Yeah, and why do they look human?
Nel: That is their rank in terms of power. We'll get back to that topic once we learn more about the next classification of Menos. Does anyone know the name of the strongest Menos?
Nel points to the drawing above the Adjuchas.
Kat: Vasto Lorde.
Nel: You're on fire today, arent you, Kat? Vasto Lorde are the strongest Menos. Once Adjuchas reach that stage, they lose their hunger and become more human. Menos Grande means "less large". The more a Menos evolves, the smaller they become. And also the more powerful they become. Vasto Lorde are extremely rare in Hueco Mundo. It is said you can only count the number of Vasto Lorde by the fingers of your hands. Any questions so far?
Kat: This is kinda off topic, but what is your relation with Kalin?
Mitsuo: Kat, that's rude to ask someone that.
Nel: It's alright, Mitsuo. She was personally sent with two captains to Hueco Mundo to exterminate 3 Adjuchas. Tamo the 14th asked me if I could help train her Hollow Half. That is how I met her.
Kat: Kalin hasn't graduated from the academy, how was she able to go to Hueco Mundo?
Mitsuo: Kat...
Kat: Shut up, Mitsuo. I was just asking a question.
Nel: Ravi, captain of the 8th Division, asked for permission if he could take Kalin with him to come along.
Kat: She can't do a single Kido, so how was she of any use?
Nel: Like I said, I trained her with her Hollow Side.
Kat: WHAT?!
Mitsuo: You mean...She's a hollow?
