Why did unohana and kenpachi have to fight?
I'm really confused
Was unohana a malicious criminal or something?
Im having a hard time understanding what's going on in chapter 523 as a whole
If someone can explain

Basically Unohana was the strongest and the reason why Kenpachi was weaker now. In order to be strong Kenpachi had to fight the strongest. Thats why Unohana was fighting Kenpachi so Kenpachi could regain his former power back

Capn' Commander Pimp Daddy Koryaku, found it was more beneficial to have Kenpachi realize his full power, while risking one of his most powerful captains, than to have a constant handicap on 2 captains.

Best way to put it, he is getting his aces ready for battle.

Unohana and Zaraki had to fight because Unohana was the true current Kenpachi. She had to train Zaraki by bringing his power back to what it was before. When Zaraki was a child he fought Unohana and almost beat her. After that fight Zaraki subconsciously placed mental limits on his power so he could fight people longer. These limits were released little by little every time he was put on the brink of death (i.e. against Ichigo and Nnoitra). During Unohana vs Zaraki, Unohana killed him countless times and then healed him so that his limits would be released. In the end, Zaraki returned to his full strength and beat Unohana to earn the title of Kenpachi.
