Here's my theory...
Remember Isshin's reference to how Juhabach gets his powers back? His "Holy Selection"?
Well, if we're to believe that Zangetsu is in fact Juhabach's essence from 1000 years ago, and part of Ichigo's Quincy powers, then it would make sense that Ichigo's powers were reawakened... Remember Juhabach explained that Kirge's jail caused Ichigo to awaken and realize these powers.
So, my theory is that when Tensa Zangetsu was broken by Haschwald, this was when Juhabach absorbed Ichigo's Quincy powers back.
Basically, Kubo's been trolling us this entire time... Ichigo's a Quincy, and it's only now in this final arc do we get to see his true Shinigami powers...

This is my exact question as well ziggyZ, it was mentioned that you need to know your bankais name in order to release it...I don't remember him knowing Hichigos name during bankai? Seems like plot hole city here. Also Urahora training Ichigo his bankai and that guy knows everything, you would think he would know if it's not a Zanpaktou!? WTF!?!?

so basicly, old man zangetsu is the manifestation of is quincy powers, is hollow is the manifestation of is shinigami powers, then they combine so he can do the FTG and he lost all is powers since they were combined. Seems the only logic way.
I wonder if, due to all that emphasis on 'white', his zanpaktou now is going to be white too?
Also since when do Quincies have bankais? Unless it was said somewhere that Juha Bach was a shinigami.
You do realize that that 'nazi symbol', the swastika, is in fact one of the oldest and most holiest symbols of the Hinduism religion?

I don't even know why I have to explain this...
The Quincy moves are heavily based around german properties so the Swastika could be seen as foreshadow that this was always going to happen.
Also I never said Quincies have Bankai's I'm purely thrown it out there that Juha might have been a Shinigami before he was a Quincy...think about it like sort of how Lucifer was an angel before he became the devil. So it wouldn't be that much of a surprise if Juha had Shinigami powers as well it would explain why he ages slowly and perhaps just perhaps the abilities Ichigo has been using 'Tensa Zangetsu' where all originally abilities Juha could use.
Anyway I know this is confusing but people you need to realize that this whole revelation has just been revealed there's been no explaining yet so before you all start shouting "Kubo's trolling us" or "This is stupid Bleach makes no sense" at least wait until you see Kubo's explanation to why the young Juha has been posing as Zangetsu.
I'm sure it wall all start to make sense so just wait until Ichigo and Young Juhabach's confrontation.

The clarify things Zengetsu was a fake Zenpakuto, but even though he was fake he could still allow Ichigo to use Bankai, most likely this is due to his inner hollows influence. That would explain why both of them were usually in the same place. Since they combined, Ichigo's new Zanpakuto will still have both Zengetsu and Hichigo's powers, but with Hichigo being the dominate of the two. This will allow Ichigo to fully awaken his Shinigami powers while still tapping into his Quincy abilities.

But why did his Quincy power's manifestation, help him unlock the full power of his Shinigami powers? And why, if those powers were from his quincy side, does Isshin (a full blooded shinigami) have the same powers?
