it would be cool if he did go but i think he just helped them get there since none of them can open the garganta

He probably wasn't trying. Remember, Byakuya said that Sasakibe tried to avoid any kind of fighting. Hell, he never even decided to become captain.

It's a shame we never got to see him fight. I'm hoping that we might get to see a flashback of him fighting later in the manga.

i thought that but the page before he went to stab ichigo and ichigo avoided it

well we can give him credit tho, out of those three vice captains, only he had any sort of reaction to ichigo xd the others just got pwned xd

I still think he wasn't really trying. He does not take part in fights. He probably realised that there were many captains there (like Byakuya) to back him up anyway, which is why he didn't really try.
