Black Zetsu, Kaguya, Itachi's Illness, & Why Sasuke defeats Kaguya (No Trolls Please)
Reading this chapter got me to thinking. Black Zetsu has been doing everything in Kaguya's best interest, in order to make her return successful. He went as far as to say that he chose the Uchiha clan to be his puppets.
Why? Tobirama says it here. Uchiha value love and friendship above all other things, which makes them emotionally driven. People emotionally driven are easy to manipulate.
Itachi, clan heir should anything happen to his father, was different. It's because he wasn't like the others that should anything happen to his father, Itachi could change the course of the Uchiha clan.
Surely Black Zetsu would have known about such a child prodigy, which means he would see how big of a potential threat he is to Kaguya's return. So how do you deal with someone who values peace and love, but hasn't fallen into the trap set by Black Zetsu? You recruit him by force or through deception. In the case of Itachi, you use both.
Because Black Zetsu was pulling the strings of Madara, which means Obito by extension, this expains this quote and Obito's thoughts.
So how does this lead to Itachi's illness? Well for one, when we see him in the village he appears perfectly healthy.
Therefore we can conclude his "mystery illness was caught sometime during his time working with Akatsuki.
Would you really put it past Black Zetsu, the guy who manipulated Madara, to be able to poison Itachi over such a long period of time? Now why would he go this far if Itachi is out of the village? It's because Itachi was trying to stop Akatsuki, which means Black Zetsu's plans by default.
How would Itachi stop Kaguya then? We learned in this chapter it's a sealing jutsu that's needed, a really strong one. Black Zetsu knew Itachi possessed a sealing jutsu and poisoned him to eliminate the threat.
This comes to Sauske and how he will be key to defeating Kaguya. Itachi said he thought Sasuke could have been the one to alter the destiny of the Uchiha clan.
Surely if someone who was a prodigy believed his younger brother could do what he himself couldn't then it holds weight? I believe this is the true reason Black Zetsu had Obito recruit Sasuke, because Sasuke had potential to be a bigger threat to Kaguya, upon her revival.
Sasuke has changed, as noted by Orochimaru.
So to close, I think the Sage of Six Paths entrusted Sasuke with that sealing technique, because of the direction that his change is taking him. Sure there is a noticable cloud of darkness around him, but there's also enough good to entrust him with the same power he gave Naruto.
