Kind of a pointless distraction to be honest. I don't think that elf was one of the magic knights that was part of their group, so there just happens to be a possessed magic knight in their hometown, while it was stated magic knights rarely go that far to the outer regions. The fact that we don't even know this guy, means he's probably not even that important.

I hope the point of this all is to discover something in their village about their past that connects to the elves.
