I just finished watching SuperKamiGuru9000's video about this movie and im wondering why do people hate this movie so much it was very good.
Here's some problems I hear:
1. Goku, Vegeta and Gohan aren't in it so it sucks wahhh - How is this a bad thing? This is one of the reasons why Bio Broly is like a breath of fresh air. Goku, Gohan and Vegeta are uninteresting spotlight stealers. This movie made the minor characters like Goten, Trunks, 18, Krillin, Mr. Satan main characters. Their also way more tolerable. I mean am I the only one who gets annoyed by Vegeta's inferiority complex towards Goku. Goku used to be interesting back in Dragonball and the early parts of DBZ when he was getting development after finding out he's a member of this alien race that slaughters people and that he was responsible for his grandfather's death. But all of that went to shit when he became a Super Saiyan and started becoming overpowered. Now he's kind of bland. Now he just seems like the Ace in the hole that the heroes rely on when theirs a really powerful villain. I somewhat liked Gohan as a kid but when he turned into an adult and started wearing that Saiyaman suit, any interest I had in his character flew right out of the window.
2. Not enough explosions - That's another reason why I like opposed to what the fanbase dislikes about it. This movie was more light-hearted than the rest. I enjoyed seeing how Trunks and Goten interacted with each other. We had also got some Krillin x 18 development. Out of all the couples in Dragonball Z Krillin and 18 have received the least amount of development, to the point where fans question why did they get married [even though they all get very little development due to Akira always focusing on Saiyans]. It was nice seeing a glimpse about what Krillin and 18's relationship is like. I enjoyed seeing a realistic villain. I can relate a lot better to a business rival trying to ruin my reputation than some alien who wants to destroy the Earth. Which is what Jaguar who was the main villain was.
3. OMG Broly's power was massively nerfed. How did Goten, Trunks and KRILLIN beat him? - Well they only could get a piece of his blood sample to use to partly regenerate so of course he's going to be weaker and they never beat him because they overpowered him. You see this is why the movie was good because it was the first time that it doesn't rely on the A > B > C logic that whoever has the highest power level always wins. They figured out that water was his weakness and used it strategically [which is rarely rarely ever used in DBZ] to beat him.
This is actually one of the few DBZ movies that I can actually tolerate since here's how most of the other movies work:
Goku and Z-Fighters get beaten up. Than Goku receives a asspull Toei-haxed power up at the last second, villain dies, heroes are saved.
