Well becoming older an learning from past mistakes can change a man. & on top of that, he's got a child to look after now who is a young prince in training. Plus he said he needs Goku to get stronger an he can't get stronger if Goku mops the floor with him.

From where they left off in the original dbz. Goku was SS3 & Vegeta was SS2. With that being said, imagine a SS3Blue God Goku vs SS2Blue God Vegeta. (If they were to go that route) It would be a no brainer as to who would win that bout.
