Does anyone remember back in war arc don't know the episode or chapter but when opened up wounds below his wrist and begin to bleed then absorbed hashis sage mode in his wrist also more people's chakra after was it ever stated how he did this?

I'm gonna go with this. It was never really stated but this seems like the most plausible scenario given he was a Rinnegan user.
