He sees certain situations in military terms that others wouldn’t be able to interpret as being related to the military. He has mutual respect and compassion for his enemies going as far as saving them on more than one occasion. He cares for his comrades deeply for he would rather undergo some torture rather than watch his fellow teammates undergo the same treatment. He is indeed a complex man.

History: Big Boss (John at the time) was originally part of a mercenary almost vigilante unit apart from Konoha. The unit fought many battles under the unit’s leader The Boss. On a rescue mission he ended up fighting his mentor The Boss who was said to have defected from the group and he lost. Much later he was forced to kill his mentor only to learn the whole thing (including his mentor’s defection was a ruse set up by the organization, and this effected him greatly. He retired from F.O.X (the name of the unit), because he lost sight of what he was fighting for. He didn’t stay retired for long as he headed back to the battlefield alone cutting ties with his previous unit. He rescued a war orphan who has been missing for sometime in the land of fire and brought him to Konoha to be taken care of after he had nursed him back to health. Being able to brave the battlefield alone impressed the Shinobi of the village. He told them of his exploits and his adventures and he eventually became a leaf ninja which wasn’t a problem since he was born in the land of fire. He always wonders if this was the correct path in the first place instead of leading a group of power hungry mercenaries. His battle prowess and leadership qualities earned him the title of “Big Boss” no doubt derived from his mentor’s code name “The Boss.” Feeling he isn’t worthy yet of that title he continued to go by one of his previous code names “snake.” His battle prowess is now used for Konohagakure as he easily rose through the ranks to become an elite ninja.

The drunken master eludes most enemies and his feigns and tricks fools the smartest of warriors. Despite his actual speed not increasing, the user stumbles and falls in his normal movements, leading to unpredictable attacks. This unpredictability leads to his basic Taijutsu attacks gaining Critical status, turning all of his non elemental or enhanced Taijutsu into Critical Attacks that deal 1.5x the damage.
