Another video thread for ya, this one took 2 days and a LIFETIME of anime fanservice viewing. More than any one man should have to witness. Naruto, Fairy Tail, One Piece, Bleach & mooooooooore~

So yah, grab a box of tissues bc your nose gonna be pouring. But here's the question- should it?

I don't really get it because I never grew up with pervy anime but good vid nonetheless!

You gotta watch the vid first, then you'll know what the videos about. Like the fact that it actually explains why this is

Does that expectation really grow in teen boys. I really doubt it.

I watched the first minute of it until realizing that it was 15 minutes long. Seems like a good video though.

You're much better than most anime Youtubers.

I know haha, editorials are more factual info essay than entertaining bite of YT. I'd recommend the final 3 minutes that really get to the heart of the issue if you're short on time.

thanks man- that's harldy a high bar though to be fair xD

That felt like deja vu when you used the 4 exact articles on Japan's population issue and the Bleach vs Spiderwoman argument.

Mentioned in that thread:

You didn't mention the other factors such as marriage and a work obsessive culture.
There were a lot of other influences mentioned in those articles- the otaku/weaboo was one of many.
The rising cost of childbirth and child-raising
The increasing number of women in the workforce
The later average age of marriage
The increasing number of unmarried people
Changes in the housing environment and in social customs

A bit biased but great video though.

I love women.

meh I view it as a non-issue. Some of the examples you used like Kill la Kill and Highschool of the dead are meant to be over the top with their fanservice.

I watched the full video. I still think your videos are great.

I agree to a certain extent.

--------------

Boobs are used to excuse bad writing is my problem.

Another one of mine is if used too much, it makes it awkward to watch. Especially watching with others.

The respect thing I agree with.

Oh, and the fact that it breaks tension when it isn't meant to. If I see a girl's tits bouncing while she's fighting, I'm not gonna take the fight too seriously.

Otaku culture is f*cked up as well, but honestly I don't think ecchi is to blame. Otaku even sexualize little girls in anime who aren't meant to be sexualized at all (this is actually very common with Otaku). The Western equivalent is bronies. These guys are just scum. Perhaps, social insecurities are to blame but you can blame any form of media for that.

What I disagree with is how you made it seem as if Ecchi is the largest reason for Japan's population aging. When in reality, it's not. Japan's work is way too overboard and border line abuse is what I would say is making it decline.

Another thing is, muscle men were never used to sexualize men for boys. It was considered cool at the time but now there's a new cool. Even women find the suave/cool look more sexually attractive than muscle men so that argument is a little invalid.

Also, I laugh at those scenes where *** is used as a joke. I know it's uncommon but to me it's genuinely funny.

9/10 video though. The one point off is just because of small differences in opinion.

But does being self-aware make it any better? I'm cool with something that wants to parody it, but neither of these shows really do.

Interesting point but I guess I didnt' convey mine well enough. Whilst it wasn't sexually 'selling' it to a horny female/gay audience or anything- it's selling the sexy appeal of a power fantasy for boys. The new cool occurred in society because male archetypes in general (anime and society) were given that little bit more free reign.

Also about what you said earlier: I genuinely believe it would leave an impact on audiences. Young children and young adults are UNBELIEVABLY impressionable, consciously or unconsciously. I was and I work with kids so from a Western application in my own life- i'll always believe that their media and influences around them should be given a second's thought. Kids learn to spit from watching Footballers, learn 'lad' / 'street' slang/mannerisms/culture on how to talk and treat people...so young adults in my experience aren't that above it either. None of us are really.

Hey, can't argue with that. I'll admit that one might just be my personal opinion haha

Like how all good debates are. Giving it a 10 wouldn't be as interesting ;D thanks man, really made my night haha

They don't have to directly parody it, fanservice is a major aspect of both the shows, its a part of their identities. They weren't going to delve deep into themes like evangelion because they simply weren't meant to be that deep lol

I enjoyed them both because I knew what I was getting into, just two over-the-top shows.

Yeah that's for sure. I wasn't expecting an Evangelion but you also don't have to be Citizen Kane to lightly parody an anime trope, cheap comedy & ecchi shows do it all the time. But eh, the final products are what they are. Just wish they could've been a lil more on top.

No because there's plenty of series that don't have that much fanservice at all. I can think of several shonen series that have minimal to no fan service at all. Also, fan service for females isn't a bad thing unless the female character only has a role to act as fanservice which is rarely ever the case.

Remember the video isn't just about objectification for sexual appeal but objectification in general. Orihime, Rebecca, Hinata, Lucy, Blair, Patty/Liz, Misa... off the top of my head. Some big mainstream shows in there. And that's just shonen.
