What makes you say Gaara?

I feel like he can do more with his sand than Shino can:

Multi-layered defenses, wide-spread barriers, sealing-sand, automatic protection, etc

Gaara. But tracking capabilities? In what sense? Gaara has sand sensing and the third eye which i think can vary in size?
