So you are right in the middle of the Arlong arc. Right after the flashback of Nami. Actually, this is a good place to start watching the anime, but at the same time, there is a filler arc approaching. After the filler, it is pretty much canon till about episode 100ish. Then they just expand their time lost in the desert and mess with Luffy meeting that person looking for him.
Tough call. Maybe watch the anime till episode 45, then go back tot he manga on ch. 95 or 96
then read to ch 102, then pick up the anime at ep 62.
It is the best way to make sure u see the awesomeness of the anime, and switching will ensure you don't miss or add anything that could affect the canon.

Watch the anime, but just google which episodes are fillers. Coz OP is just awesome in anime form. Dubbed or subbed imo
