Watch Fate/Zero the first. It will help you get into chronological order.

Then, you wanna watch Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works, which takes part after the events of Fate/Zero, about 10 years later.

Fate/Stay Night has about 3 different routes, one of which was made in 2009, which is the original Fate/Stay Night anime adaptation, you wanna watch that after Unlimited Blade Works. Then, if you truly feel like getting correctly into the genre, you wanna download the Visual Novel of Fate/Stay Night, which contains all the routes, which are the Fate route (Original anime adaptaion) Unlimited Blade Works (2014 anime adaptaion, done by the same studio as Fate/Zero) and Heavens Feel (Which is being made a movie, by the same studio which made Zero and Unlimited Blade works).

If you have more questions, you can ask me, and welcome to the Fate Fanbase, truly one of the best!!

Meh. In terms of animation Zero is ok but Unlimited Blade Works is a superior thing. In terms of history starting with Zero is the right choice. See both of them but jumping right to UBW doesn't do any harm either and can't be qualified as a bad choice at all.

I'm quite sure you are going to love it. Both are great but there is a special place in my heart for UBW, especially if you can see it at 60 fps.

Why watch the 2009 version after the 2015 version? Isn't it much more simple and correct to watch the series the order it aired? If he watches the Fate/Zero and the UBW (TV) 2015 version first, it's almost certain that he'll be disappointed and won't want to finish the 2009 version.

It is the chronological order which I have watched myself. I believe that it would be better to watch the good stuff prior, watch the bad one...and start making sense of it, in a natural fashion. A true fan of the series, would push through the 2006 Fate/Stay Night, and might later on even play the Visual Novels.

I believe that Zero should be begun with, as it explains the vibe, and mystery of the series better. It will also teach you to love the characters and their stories. Then, continuing from something that cam AFTER Zero, would be better, as they would include many parts from Zero specifically, so you can get everything in order. Then...you have to watch the first version of it, and make sense of why those changes are made. The routes of Stay Night, all are emotional, but you need to learn to love them. It is entirely dependent on perspective and character. As I said prior, a true fan...will go through it, especially if you love Saber, to which I say,,,,if you watched Fate and you don't...Die in a hole :)

I suppose you could look at it that way, though he might not be as much of a fan as you are. However seeing as you're so passionate about the series, I'll defer to your judgement on this one :eek:k:

So Fate/Zero, then , then the novel?

First Zero, then Unlimited Blade Works, then I would suggest you directly begin with the Novels. You could watch The original 2006 Stay Night after those 2, but...the novel is better done anyway, and you can escape from the terrible animations and storytelling of the 2006 adaptation.

That is very well true, but I believe that after watching the 2 anime, which are considered "Perfect" by a huge number of fans, you will slowly begin to adore the characters and storytelling. I thank you a lot though, for your understanding =D

Yes, that's the 2015 one. Just for your reference (following Six Paths recommendation) :

Fate/Zero

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (TV)

-Insert VN's Here-

(Optional if you read the VN) Fate/stay night

(Optional if you read the VN) Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (Movie)

Anyone telling you to watch Zero first clearly doesn't know what they're talking about. Fate was originally a VN, named Fate/stay night, then after that some other author wrote a Light Novel called Fate/Zero, which Nasu himself (the author of F/SN) stated that F/Z was meant to be read by people who already read the VN, and the reason for that is that F/Z spoils the shit out of Fate/stay night. So if you're going for the main story, I suggest you read the Visual Novel of Fate/stay night first rather than the anime, for various reasons, like more quality in story telling, more detail, better character development, and the fact that some of the routes don't even have an anime adaptation
. Anyway you read the FSN routes in this order Fate > Unlimited Blade Works > Heaven's Feel, then you can go ahead and watch F/Z's anime, then you read Fate/Hollow Ataraxia's visual novel. If you're doing this anime only (and trust me, that's a TERRIBLE choice), then you still go for Fate/stay night first, I think there's an old anime for the Fate route, but I heard it's not good at all, UBW, which is arguably the most important route got butchered by the anime, and there is no adaptation for HF yet, so you'll have to wait for the movie next year, and since apparently there will only be one movie, (in other words, they will compress a 20 hour long route into a 1:30 hour long movie), so it will very likely be shit. Then after that you can watch Zero, and then you hope that wait for them to make an adaptation for HA.

Lol @ all the conflicting answers, I'd say you can start anywhere, I saw it more or less chronologically (stay night, Zero, UBW). After reading review among other things I discovered that whatever way you choose to watch it will most likely be what you'll recommend. There's no right or generally accepted good way of watching it.
