I know many anime purist. "Manga is better than anime" "subs not dubs" "it sounds better on vinyl" "do you have that in gluten free" etc etc. However when it comes down to a certain anime, one can not dispute that having a male voice actor has its perks.
I'm going to show you 2 scenes from dragonball z. In the first one, its the japanese voice actress of goku masako nozawa. She's been goku's voice actress since he first premiered. She gets respect. But the tone of dragonball changed. Goku changed, and in the scene i'm going to show you of goku absorbing a spirit bomb, her performance is well... lackluster.
The second one is from the funimation dub of the same scene. Sean schemmel is voicing goku and is considered by some, the best screamer in anime history. I'll try to make the videos start at the relevant point, but in case i can't, or in case you want to watch the whole thing, the scream is at 00:54 for the first one and 1:51 for the english one.
