There are countless Sci-Fi books, movies, games and just overall series that have been influenced by each other. One of the most popular Sci-Fi franchise is obviously Star Wars, however I do not believe that this is best Sci-Fi universe.

This is my personal opinion, but I believe that the best Sci-Fi universe, which has also greatly inspired Star Wars and countless other fictions is....

Dune

I mean the books. The 1984 movie was horrible.

The TV-Miniseries of Dune back in 2000 was pretty good though for those who are interested in watching.

What do you think is the best Sci-Fi universe?

Another Dune fan? Awesome.

I would have to go with Dune too. I did not watch the movie or played the games, but the universe was crafted near perfectly in book(s).
Author really made it real.

Imo from recent fictional verses Metro 2033 was very good in atmosphere.

From movies, probaby District 9.

Star Wars when it's at its best. It's too bad so many heads get creative freedom, it gives such bad tone consistency.

Stories that focused on Mandalorians, Republic Commando's, the 501st Legion, and Darth Vader are always worthwhile. The Bounty Hunters are great, especially Boba and Jango.

A lot of Sith stories are amazing as well. Darth Bane and Darth Caedus are both marvelous characters; and Lumiya was outstanding too. Darth Revan was the best.

Both Dune and Star Wars are awesome.

I also like Planet of the Apes (the original movies) if that counts.

I always enjoyed the expanded universe of star wars more so than the movies, especially the Old Republic ones.

The original trilogy took a lot from Dune, including the main villain being related to the protagonist. Although I think Dune made a better twist with it.

If you don't mind spoilers, I'll tell you the twist.

Dune takes place on Arakis, a planet that harbors the treasure of the universe and the great houses battle over it's control.

This treasure, spice, will grant you powers after long exposure to it.

The main protagonist was of the house Atredies which currently ruled the planet. He was born through genetic modification much like Anakin and the mediclorines on a desert planet.

The House Harkanen is the main rival of Atredies and are much like the Empire. They took over the planet and killed the Protagonists father.

The people of the planet prophesied that the protagonist would bring about balance and lead the way to peace.

It was later revealed that the Baron of Harkanen was the Grandfather of the protagonist. So in essence he killed his son in law without knowing it.
