Shinedown is very successful and has sold 6 million records world wide. But I guess everyone is entitled to his own opinion. I'll take a wild shot and say that your friend likes "Indy bands"? Or the "old metal" that trumps ALL METAL. Either way I'm wasting my time. I love them and they are fantastic live and they were very successful in the mid 2000's.

I've seen both Avenged Sevenfold and Five Finger Death Punch live and they are both insanely awesome in their own right.
