Forget Tupac and Biggie, they arent alive. Otherwise they would be topping the list.
Im not considering mainstream success or album sales, as those are superficial as hell, and in no way representative of skill.

Jay-Z has fallen off. Watch the Throne was massively overrated IMO and he comes out with a song every 3 years because he has more important shit to worry about.
In my opinion, the Realest in the game right now are
1) SHADY records WITH Slaughterhoues
(lets be honest, shady kills everything and now has one of the most talented and diverse groups signed to him, $600,000,000 Deal)
2) The Game
(real, been there, beefs w everyone and comes out on top and every album has gone platinum)
3) Curren$y
(LEFT YMCMB to prove a point, and is better for it, OUTRAGEOUS fan base could have made millions with his album quality mixtapes but loves the fans instead)
4) Wale/MMG
(unreal lyricism. not a hood nigguh but from DC nonetheless and knows a struggle, plus MMG is iight)
5) Big K.R.I.T
(southern drawl accompanied with lyricism?? unheard of in the rap game.)
6) Kendrick Lamar
7) Freddie Gibbs
(real talk, i dont need to explain myself, listen to the "miseducation of freddie gibbs" and educate yourselves)
8) EDIT: Tech n9ne
(completely forgot about him, underground king, all about free music)
Honorable mentions:
Nas (hasnt come out with an album in forever, but dope as shit)
Smoke DZA, A$AP Rocky, Schoolboy Q Young Roddy(major up and comer), Jeezy, J Cole.
Ludacris (when he takes things seriously).
*Kanye West is a GREAT PRODUCER first, and really not that great of a rapper tbh, hes also in the Jay-Z doesnt need to do shyt hes so rich category anymore.
