Content ? Seinen is a lot more daring... have you seen Gantz,Monster or Berserk ?
Well, a shounen title doesn't necessarily have to be of the fighting genre, although most of them are. You can have various types of shounen: sports (Prince of Tennis, Eyeshield 21), game-based (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Hikaru no Go) and mystery and suspense (Death Note, Detective Conan/Case Closed)

There's no 'premise' for Shounen, because it isn't a genre. It's simply a categorization of series targeted at middle school aged boys. Death Note is a shounen series because it was made to target middle school aged boys. That's the size of it.

Thanks for the original words and thoughts. It was well-constructed and thought out. Good job.

You're correct. The series you listed are seinen, but that doesn't mean Death Note can't be. lol I still think that Death Note (and even Code Geass) are more on the side of seinen. There's an obvious gap in seriousness between Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, et cetera, compared to series such as Death Note.

Cowboy Bebop, hands down. It's one of the best and certainly most grounded series out there, and most of anime's western audience that wasn't won over by DBZ watches anime because of it.

Of the ones I've seen, Eden of the East, Steins;Gate, Samurai Champloo, and Baccano!/Durarara!! are also very good to start off with (maybe Ghost in the Shell, too, for more adult viewers).

My friends became anime watchers when i recommended them attack on titan. They watched it on DUBS and they said that it was awesome.

I pity them, when they get into the anime world completely there's no way back, sub ftw.

Also it depends on the taste of the person that you're trying to convince, if he/she like

For horror and thriller, I'd say Higurashi, Another, Elfen Lied and Shiki.

For comedy, I'd say Gintama, Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou and Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun.

For action, I'd say Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works, Parasyte, Sword Art Online, and Mirai Nikki.

For mystery, I'd say GoSick, Kamisama no Memochou, Hyouka, Persona 4 the animation, Death Note and Jigoku Shoujo.

You just need to know the likes and dislike of that person that you're trying to hook into the anime world.

One of my friends used to call me a loser for watching anime and then somehow he became a bigger addict than me and got his friends to like it.

I think Attack on Titan or Death Note are good starts.

Dunno, probably Death Note, Studio Ghibli movies, or something. But, for many my age that I know of, it was Dragon Ball Z. XD Dat nostalgia. The reason was checking it out again since it was one of those epic "kids shows" then looking for more anime. :p

Mine personally was TTGL, was gonna say DBZ but I watched it as a little kid and didin't really get into anime.

OT: TTGL, Death Note, Attack on Titan(a lot of these kids at my highschool wear Survey Corps hoodies and talk about anime all the time and think there experts on japanese culture, when AoT is there first and only care about anime lol, glad I keep my interest in anime&manga super lowkey.) Sword Art Online, Kuroko no Basket, basically, every popular shorter series animes IMO

Ah... so you did your homework after all ? good for you...

Yes am correct and yes deathnote can't be seinen because you feel its closer to seinen, and yes of course there's an obvious gap of seriousness between Naruto/One Piece/Bleach/YYH and HXH, but as i said those are shounen battle manga, and their foundation is different to begin with... deathnote falls on mystery/suspense shounen series, like Detective Conan and their content is far from seinen, Monster is the prefect example of deathnote seinen version.

Well, for me it was Naruto and Sao, but I pretty much hate both now.

Death Note for sure, I even got my mom to watch that at one point.

Next would be Shin Sekai Yori or Eden of the East.

I'm surprised no one mentioned DBZ, it was the thing that introduced me to anime, then Death Note maybe.

Yeah, but to introduce someone to anime and get them to start watching it on their own? Most people envision something like DBZ when they think of anime, anyways, so if that doesn't hook them right there, you gotta start with something that shows more of what anime has to offer as a whole, not just battle shōnen.
