I'm surprised.

Not a single mention of Samurai Champloo on this thread. Mugen the first episode was a complete badass and the way he gave no ****s was what got me hooked.

Bleach would be another one that had a really good first episode. Followed by Code Geass and Death Note.

I'd also argue FMA:Brotherhood's first episode and episode 1 of Sword Art Online- being the only episode of the crap series I could watch.
