I have no proof, it's just an idea.
Here, Mingo outright abandons Bellamy, and tells him he does not need him.
He killed him, or so he thought.
So... of course Bellamy didn't die. So I believe after recovering from abandonment by his 'gang' and wanted to be accepted back to the Jolly Rogers, he went to skypiea in search of something of interest to bring back to Mingo.
We don't know how he got there but that's not important; he got there. What is of more importance though, is how exactly Mingo got that Mera Mera. So I believe Bellamy found the DF up there, wreaked havoc to retrieve it from the guards, and presented it back to Mingo where he took him back under his wing again.
