It is purely dependant on the situation of the individual, therefore your point is moot.
As a teenager, I had to control the households financial situation/bills, shopping and so on. I have to take care of my mother whom has kidney disease, a fractured neck, liver problems and so on. My relatives were junkies, so we were constantly broke. As I grew, life became easier.

Teenagers have less freedom, but adults have more responsibility. It's more about how you handle things and not about your age group.
