being a kage isnt all about power

Up until recently, many people, myself included, thought that being kage made you the strongest of your village. Well I have a new conclusion: Being Kage isn't all about power. I think what makes a true Kage is their ability to protect the village and its people.

I have a few examples

Tsunade: We all know there are a few people who would wreck Tsunade hard (sexually pun fully intended), but she still made Hokage. Why? Because she has the ability to heal many people at once. While she may not be able to stop the physical village from being destroyed, she can stop many deaths

Kakashi: Now, while he isn't a Kage, he was on Kage level. I think so because one of the things that made him a candidate was he was he was well-liked and trusted by many. I think that was a powerful attribute to a Kage. What if disaster struck, like an attack. If people don't trust or like their Kage, they could potentially question their judgement or even betray their orders, which could lead to death and destruction of village.

Danzo: Now Danzo wasn't the most trusted guy, but he had another powrful attribute: Root. Root were at his palm, ready to obey orders. This was like one big weapon or defense against an attack.

Gaara: Now, we don't much about the Sand Village, for all we know, he may very well be their strongest shinobi. But I think the real reason he became Kage was because he could literally control the desert. The entire landscape around the village was his weapon, making attacks against the village somewhat difficult since he could defend anywhere. I also think Gaara was a redemption at trust. I think the people who elected him Kage thought like this: If the village can see past the murderer Gaara once was and trust him, then other villages can see that Suna could be trusted as they can overcome petty things, which would also play to their favor since they were the "weakest" village; they could use all the help they can get.

Mei: I think she's Kage due to something we learned with Haku: People with Kekkei Genkai in the Mist were executed. I think other nations were beginning to doubt there ties with the Mist. Think about it, if they were killing their OWN people because they were strong, what would they do with outsiders who were supposed to be allies? To show that Mist could be trusted, they made Mei Kage. Not only is she strong, she could also represent somerthing like Gaara: the Mist is able to overcome flaws and can be trusted, just like Suna; after all they just eleceted someone with TWO kekkei genkai as their LEADER

That's just my two cents

very true you could have all the power in the world but if you arent a good leader and you dont have smarts you cant really be a good hokage ...... a person like that may jus be rmr for charging a bunch of shinibo into battle and all of them get killed cuz they were no tatics behind any of it

I thought this was known. Being the head of a country/village is about leadership, power, common popularity and good decision making.

If you get killed easily whats the point
When the daimyo was deciding if Kakashi should be the next Hokage
They said ''Well he is powerful''so yeah it is definitly preferred and needed to be Hokage

the OP doesn't say power is not important. he says that it's not the only deciding factor

Yeah I've been seeing a lot of threads that state Tsunade as worst Hokage and she shouldn't even have the job, but I think she is well fitted for the role. Her medical jutsu can span across the whole village, something that seems to go unnoticed for some reason simply because she didn't fight during pain's invasion.

OP makes some great points. Done research nice.

My opinion is that someone is appointed Kage by 3 things.
Leadership
Strength
Knowledge

Leadership is important because you want the village to have faith in you and be able to trust you will make the right decisions. You need to know how to lead a village, how to organize it and also how to inspire your people in a crysis.

Strength is pretty self explanitory. You need to be able to defend your village. Each Kage does it in their own way. I know tsunade might not be a strongest at ninjutsu but how many other Kage can heal the entire village at once?

Knowledge is about knowing how your village runs, your villages strengths and weaknesses and how to overcome them. Its also about knowing yourself and what you are capable of.

Each kage is appointed for a reason, and is usually the right choice.

to be honest a kage needs 3 things

power

to ensure they can protect there village and people.

brains and tactical knowlege
to decide tactics to keep the village out harm and ensure the peace with nigotiation and other matters to village.

kind heart and strong will.
and a kind heart ensure all actions pure for village without malice or bad intent.
strong will to protect everyone and not be tainted by revenge or hatred.

being a hokage means u must make choices rational not with unwavering motives or ur heart wavering.
