(About to post this in OBD and Vs.Wiki, so Ima drop this here as well.)
The Universe destroying shockwaves.
This has been confusing to quite a lot of people. Ergo, I've decided to create a detailed thread to explain what actually happened.
•First Clash - Goku and Beerus perform a collision that created a shockwave that spread omnidirectionally across the Universe eventually reaching the Kaioshin realm vaporizing a planet in its path.
•Second Clash- Goku and Beerus create another shockwave which destroys the asteroid belt and destabilizes a Star.
•Third Clash- There were no shockwaves created because Goku supplies the exact force and angle to cancel out the attack.
After the first clash, Elder Kai notes that the Universe would be reduced into a void of nothingness aka complete material destruction if they decide to clash a few more times. After making estimations, he comes to the conclusion that the third clash would indeed wipe out the entire Universe.
Prior the third clash, Elder Kai expresses poignant fear. He states that the upcoming clash would destroy the Universe, the gods including Beerus- Sama. The phrase implies that the Kaiohin realm/planet would've been destroyed along with the material Universe. In Dragon Ball, destructive capacity generally equals durability from the virtue of being powered by a common source, that is Ki. Beerus on his lonesome demonstrated that he is easily Universal by containing and nullifying an explosion of that magnitude. Meaning his durability should also be in that level. Its also worth noticing that a heavily suppressed Beerus survived the equilibrium of Universe destroying force. So why would Beerus die due to the Universal explosion? Simple. The Kaioshin and the Hakaishin's existence is interconnected. If the former dies, the latter dies and vice-versa. Logical conclusion - Beerus would die in the explosion as a side-effect of Kibito Kai and Elder Kai's death.
Moving on, a lot of people prefer to discredit the feat because it didn't live up to its hype. The feat couldn't exhibit the damage assessment it promised. Here are some important points to ponder :
•Elder Kai is a keen observer. He constantly observes the Universe and its inhabitants. He also played a vital role in creating most of the planets in the Universe. The notion of Elder Kai lying is preposterous given his role as a cosmic observer. Elder Kai is convinced that Beerus alone could destroy the universe in every single episode before the fight occurred. It was considered hyperbole until it turns out that is very much the case. Whether Goku could do it doesn't matter since he was fighting relatively even with someone that could.
•The feat received multiple third party backup/acknowledgement. - Narrator, Whis, Goku, Kibito Kai, Elder Kai.
•The authors intent - Toriyama is setting a benchmark. By demonstrating such feats, he conveys the pros of Godly essence. Simple as it can get, god tiers in Dragonball can threaten the Universe, proven through the example of Goku Beerus and Champa.
The background details/Actual context
Elder Kai: By making it so that their fists hit each other with the exact same force and angle, he cancelled out Beerus-sama's attack!
Goku: To tell you the truth, I'd been hopin' to perfect that trick around the second clash, but that's Beerus-sama for ya, I guess.
This is the most crucial part. This literally explains everything. The lack of damage assessment and what not -
•The blows act as vectors. Perfectly opposite vectors cancel each other out. That proves that the mere excess power is the ones destroying the universe. It's not even their full power. It's their residual energy.
•The context implies that Goku was actively trying to dampen the Shockwave's output. He hoped to cancel the attack around the second collision, but succeeded at third. Goku was doing it in order to protect Earth and the native solar systems.
•The shockwaves output doesn't increase with distance, common misconception. It was Elder Kaioshin merely making an observation. He theorized - it /APPEARS/ that the shockwaves get more destructive as the travel further out. It was Elder Kai noting the unusual behavior shown by the shockwaves without knowing the background details. He later amended his theory after he came to know that Goku was consciously weakening the shockwaves and protected everything within his range. As the Shockwaves exceeded his range, they were unrestrained/unchecked. They were not under Goku's control anymore. Ergo, the moment they bypass the weakening zone, they exhibit their true destructiveness. This is NOT speculation. This is the ACTUAL explanation to why the Earth wasn't reduced to stardust, or why the Kaioshin planet which supposedly resides outside the physical Universe wasn't annihilated. A shockwave is never supposed to get stronger by distance.
Its true that Goku explicitly doesn't say that he weakened the first shockwave. But is the spoonfeeding necessary? One should acknowledge that Goku did infact weaknen the first shockwave since Earth wasn't destroyed. Some try to debunk this by saying that Goku can't see the future, so the idea of him dampening the first shockwave is out of the window. That argument is ridiculous for the the following reasons :
•Its implying that Goku cannot match a force which barely harms human beings, this reflects ignorance.
•Its implying that Goku came to know about shockwave's consequence the moment his body felt it and it flew besides his eye, granting him quadrillions of times swifter than light speed reactions.
Thank you reading the thread.
