Law needs a powerup.

We've not seen Zoro and Sanji go all out yet, as Zoro hasn't used Asura and Sanji has been injured ever since his fight, while being fatigued because Nami was trapped in his body

Law seriously needs a powerup to maintain an authoritative position in the alliance and stay above Zoro and Sanji, but what would it be?

So far we've seen all of Laws moves have a lack of fatality, as a surgeon his powers are limited by being incapable of killing, this was until recently, that is.

Gamma knife:
You must be registered for see images

literally tears apart his opponents from the inside out, much like a gamma knife in real life, making internal surgical incisions with radiation

He has other moves based on surgical equipment:

Scalpel: "Mes"
You must be registered for see images

Radio Knife:
You must be registered for see images

Defribillators: "Counter Shock"
You must be registered for see images

Scanner: "Scan"
You must be registered for see images

Injections: "Injection Shot"
You must be registered for see images

He also has other references to surgical tools, such as his moves Shambles and Amputate

He still hasn't used the following common surgical instruments (and this is where his power up comes in):
Pinzette: He could use this to freeze enemies in his room, or restrict their movements
Forceps: Like a long distance "Mes" technique that can be used on anything
Wire: He can mimic Doflamingo and create a wire from his sword slashes that performs similar functions to Doflamingo's strings
Anaesthesia: He can use this to hide his fatigue and pain (so he's like a temporary zombie, kinda)

What you think?

Not necessarily, Law's advantage is his brain, he is the strategist of the alliance.

Not I am not saying he won't get an upgrade, it just wouldn't be that important to the alliance.

It's understandable that he's ever so slightly weaker than Luffy as the main protagonist, which is what we had seen recently, before Luffy pulled out Gear 4...

Law's been blown out of the water along with Zoro and Sanji. Doesn't make sense for Luffy to be so far ahead.

Law isn't the only brain in the alliance. Sanji, Robin, Chopper and Nami are all highly intellectual

Yes but they don't know the New World or the Yonko, Law has information about the New World and Kaidou, he has been their guide in the New World.

Also he remarked that in order to survive you need to take down a Yonko or work for one, he knows more about the situation then any of the Straw Hats do.

Also Luffy blows everyone out of the water eventually, everyone is always left speechless by his progress, even Robin said he was their trump card.

That is true, although Robin does know about the New World, as does Chopper, Nami and Sanji, not as extensively as Law, but his knowledge is probably equally matched by those four.

Luffy doesn't blow his rivals or Zoro and Sanji out of the water, whenever he powers up they normally follow suit, but there's no opportunities for them to do that until the next arc

Law isn't really a rival, more of a friend in denial.

But they do generally get power ups, and Zorro showed that he hasn't even gone all out yet with his battle against Pica (remember all the Zorro>Luffy posts).

And Sanji may have other tricks we haven't seen yet.

I am not saying he won't get a power up, but it isn't necessary for the alliance. Law has other advantages and other ways of helping.

If Law gets a power up it may be next arc while fighting his nemesis of that arc.

Or Luffy > Law like i always said, like it should be. Pretimeskip he was already arguably stronger than Law and he trained with a top tier for 1 and a half year who judged him strong enough to leave him finish his personal training. Both hypewise and featwise Luffy has been portrayed as the stronger combattant, including by Doflamingo or even Law himself. This chapter even sealed the deal by showing Law trying all what he could even after a 13years long running plan to defeat Doflamingo and still failing and now counting on Luffy to do the job whether by dying with him or not and Luffy will sure as hell do that job and proving his superiority over Luffy and with Zoro replicating Punk Hazard Law's feat multiple times without going all out(no Asura), i think it's becoming clearer and clearer that he is actually closer to Zoro's level than Luffy's. Not sure about Sanji though

An ally doesn't mean he was never portrayed as Luffy's rival, along with Kidd.

Those three portray Whitebeard, Shiki and Roger parallels, all of whom were extremely close in strength. Since Whitebeard (most similar to Law) and Roger (most similar to Luffy) were almost perfectly equal then surely Law should be incredibly close to Luffy in terms of strength, hence the new requirement for a new powerup

Sanji most likely has more Rokushiki techniques and kicks powerful enough to create long distance attacks, Zoro still has his Asura, what does Law have left to show us? More surgical instrument based attacks...

Next arc is likely to be a short one, like a post-DR arc or the Zou arc being a very short reunion of sorts between the crews

I can't see Zoro and Sanji winning of Law anytime soon. He is fine and overpowered as he is already.

He can teleport within his room, he can swap out weapons, and he can manipulate gravity more or less.

Those three elements make most fighters useless within his range and his room has gotten pretty big after time skip.

Look how long it took Zoro to figure out a simple fruit users ability like Pica. He would be screwed against law who can take his swords away in a blink of an eye. Besides Law has great endurance as seen against Doffy, he could probably take a few hits from Sanji and Zoro at the very least.

So even if they get a few hits in, Law only needs 1. If he chops off a leg or an arm or an head it's all over for Sanji and Zoro.

Roger and Whitebeard were mortal enemies, they tried to kill each other many times, and were arch rivals.

Luffy views Law as a friend and would risk everything for him, that is a very different relationship. Even Law is willing to die alongside Luffy.

Also I would like to point out that after this saga, Law's role in the over all story will be diminished, the author has a lot of other Supernovas to focus on.

Whitebeard was a good person because he was a good guy and the author wanted us to like him, Luffy's equivalent rival will probably be a villain and not someone the author would want us to sympathize with.

And the author isn't gong to give every single character from the previous generation a exact parallel, that would be meaningless.

Remember that Roger executed entire crews, he wasn't as good a person as Luffy is.

I doubt Luffy will have a Whitebeard or Shiki like Roger did, he will have his own set of enemies. And currently his primary rival is Blackbeard, who he hates with a passion.

Well... Clearly not, as somebody like Doffy, who is by no means a monster, was able to resist and overcome all of the inhibitions and caps that Laws fruit places on his opponents

Look how long it took Zoro to figure out a simple fruit users ability like Pica. He would be screwed against law who can take his swords away in a blink of an eye. Besides Law has great endurance as seen against Doffy, he could probably take a few hits from Sanji and Zoro at the very least.

Zoro without his swords is still probably physically capable of undermining Laws teleporting abilities

I'm measuring power against Doflamingo. Luffy's about to go 1v1 and (inevitably) win against a man that low-diffed Law on two occasions

That takes nothing away from their parallels.

Laws crew and the Whitebeard Pirates use Tattoos, Law uses his Sword in the same way Whitebeard used his Bisento, both have very similar powers in a sence of mass collateral damage and destruction, they both rival the Pirate King of their generation. Law is, undeniably Newgates parallel

After this Saga Law will still be around, we'll see the other Supernova at some point, especially Drake (possibly see him within this Saga), Kidd, Apoo and Hawkins (Rivalling alliance, they might be after Kaidou, or Big Mom (whom is currently actively involved in the saga anyway). That leaves just Urouge, Bonney and Bege to be addressed. It won't be hard for Oda to bring any of them back into the limelight

Law fits the description of villainy and brutality as an enemy, and also the sympathy that matches Newgates

Not everyone from the old generation, just key figureheads: Roger (Luffy), Whitebeard (Law), Shiki (Kid), Sengoku (Coby), Garp (Smoker), Tsuru (Hina), Rayleigh (Zoro). (Other possibilities include Shakki as Bonney, Gabban as Sanji)That's hardly a substantial number of parallels.

Roger and Luffy still get paralleled. You've fallen for Manga Marine propaganda! :coffee: , that's quite impressive. Roger and Luffy say the exact same things to Rayleigh. Same hat (linking the two). He also smiled on Rogers execution platform and accepted death just as Roger did according to Smoker. They've been to the same Islands and accomplished the same feats e.g. Skypiea and Ennies Lobby

Blackbeard isn't one of the new generation in the same fashion as Law and Kidd. He won't rule the seas for long. He will be defeated, THEN Luffy will be Pirate king and obtain One Piece. Law and Kidd will still be around to rival him and rule the seas in conjunction with him

Law clearly needs a powerup to live up to his parallels and hype

No, during the War on Marineford arc it was established that Roger executed that Pirate crew of the captain that stabbed Whitebeard.

Roger had a dark side to him.

Remember he was outraged that Whitebeard didn't tell him that Ace was Roger's son.

Law is more of a friend than a rival and nemesis like Whitebeard and Roger were.

Even if he does have some similarities, I doubt he will have the same relationship. Remember that Smoker is the equivalent of Garp yet Garp doesn't hold the children of criminals responsible for their parents crime while Smoker does as shown in the Marineford arc where he became even more obsessed with taking down Luffy for simply being Dragon's son.

Smoker was interested. It was because he's relate to the Marine and World Governments greatest threat, Dragon the leader of the Revolutionaries whom he clearly had some history with (as seen on Loguetown)

Of course they all have their slight differences. Oda isn't Kishi. He's not going to completely mirror characters, but in terms of relevance to the plot etc. they remain similar

Maybe.

But I doubt Luffy and Law will be rivals like Whitebeard and Roger were, who tried to kill each other again and again, their rivalry will be in name only with them as good friends (and Law totally in denial over it).

That's what I think will happen.

But for their reputations as rivals to exist, in theory, means they have to be able to defeat eachother in battle... so regardless of friendship, Law should match Luffy

Actually Law just has to be the one closest to Luffy among pirates. But we will see as the series progresses what the author does.

Making stuff levitate qualifies as defying gravity

How do you resist having your swords teleported away from you with pure strength ? That's part of Law's power you can't undermine that just by holding on to it. He doesn't drag them away from him he switches them out with other objects instantly.

Zoro and Sanji would get cut up in the first 5 seconds of the fight before they can come up with a plan to counter his room.

Manipulating objects and how they're affected by gravity is very different from manipulating the force.

I'm not saying Zoro resists them being taken away, don't think you've got your reading glasses on mate. I said that Zoro is a strong fighter without his swords anyway

They are not on different levels. Law, Luffy and Zoro are on same table with Luffy being slightly above Law who's followed by Zoro. You can't deny the fact that Luffy is no match for Joker if it isn't for the wounds inflected by Law. So Luffy defeating Joker won't really put him a level above Law.
