Officially, the Battlefield 4 release date is set for “Fall 2013″ by EA. Which usually means during the game-heavy release months of October and November, right in the middle of the holiday shopping season.

But now we might have a more specific Battlefield 4 release date, coming from the official Xbox 360 site. Microsoft recently published a blog post promoting Battlefield 4, where they revealed that the game would ship on October 29, 2013.

Realizing the faux pas, Microsoft quickly removed the date from the blog post, but not before news (or rather, rumors) spread throughout the Interwebs. This is the strongest indication of a specific Battlefield 4 release date we’ve seen yet, as Microsoft would certainly be one of the parties to know the date.

To make the October 29, 2013 release date even more plausible, consider that BF3 launched during a similar period — on October 25, 2011. The Battlefield 4 beta is also scheduled to launch during the Fall, likely a month before the release date. Both the Battlefield 4 release date and the BF3 release date are on a Tuesday.

Coincidentally, October 29 is when another high-profile AAA title is released: Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 4. Looks like the two juggernauts will be going head to head on that day.

EA will likely announce the official Battlefield 4 release date at E3, which kicks off in two months in Los Angeles. Either way, it looks like the game will be a big seller for EA. Battlefield 4 pre-orders have already risen to the top of the pre-order charts at several retailers.

Never owned or played a Battlefield game, but was dying to play the 3rd one. Definitely going to pick this one up. Quick question though, is this the kind of game where I need to play, or at least be aware of, the previous installments? Or is it more like how COD operates, where I can just pick it up with no prior knowledge and get right into it?

It's totally different from COD, I tought the same way as you, never played BF series, only COD, so when I started everything felt different, the recoil of the weapons the maps, basically all the gameplay, so I started really bad, but now I kinda have the hang of it, after like 2 months.
