DICE revealed not only the brand new Battlefield 4, but a brand new Frostbite 3 engine that powers it as well. While on the surface, Battlefield 4 and its predecessor look similar, the underlying engine technology is greatly improved.

The guys over at Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry analyzed the new Frostbite 3 engine and compared Battlefield 4 to BF3, and it certainly looks like Battlefield 4 has a lot of advantages.

One of the biggest improvements are facial animations, which in Battlefield 4 are far superior. Effects such as explosions are improved, and the general level of detail has been kicked up a notch. All while creating a more streamlined engine that runs better on a variety of different hardware configurations. Another improvement, as we’ve heard before, is that destruction is improved. It’s rumored that players will be able to destroy buildings completely in Battlefield 4.

Earlier today, DICE revealed that they are working with graphics card makers Nvidia and AMD to provide special video card drivers that are optimized for Battlefield 4.

Another interesting bit of information is that the 17-minute Battlefield 4 gameplay video was actually rendered at 3K resolution (3,000 x 2,300) and was downscaled to 1080p at 60 frames per second. Maybe that’s why it needed a powerful graphics card such as the Radeon 7990. Be sure to check out the 60 fps version of the Battlefield 4 gameplay video.

Indeed...The facial animations cannot be compared with 3 & 4...Do you know how much power BF4 is using of Frostbite 3.0? 80%?? I thought i saw it somewhere...
