Alright, I've figured out how we're going to do this. I remember learning from Cobalt the same way, though I'll make slight changes to his method.

I've split our training into the following categories, tell me what you wish to start with.

Categories:
-Elemental combinations
-Logistics of a battle
-Countering/Releasing Genjutsu
-Freeform Taijutsu and Kenjutsu
-Making custom techniques (my specialty )
-Using summons and clones
-Battling types and characteristics (Cobalt's method)
-Taking advantage of the terrain

Alright, let's get this show on the road.

With elemental combinations, its not only about fusing different jutsus in straight forward attack, but using them in effective ways which supplement your fighting style.

I assume you know how the basic five elements interact with one another, but I'll go over it just in case.

Fire is stronger than Wind, the oxygen in the wind only seeks to fuel the heat of the flames.
Wind is stronger than Lightning, as its a natural insulator.
Lightning is stronger than Earth as it can pierce through it and cause it to crumble.
Earth is stronger than Water as it reduces the force of the waves as well as block them.
Water is stronger than Fire because it extinguishes the flames.

Now as you can see, some elements will be difficult to use together whilst others will flow together perfectly.

A few good elemental combinations are:
Water and Lightning. The water conducts the electricity, giving it a more lethal edge.

Fire and Lightning. My personal view on these elements is, that they simply "phase" through eachother, since they're both in plasma state. However, some people may disagree with you, ignore them and follow your sensei's way xD. But really, its best to be on the safe side and never use Fire to counter Lightning or vice versa. This doesn't mean Fire goes through Fire and Lightning goes through Lightning.

Lightning can block other lightning techniques of the same rank and below, and Fire can block Fire (of the same rank or below).

When I say elemental combinations, you have to realize what I mean by this. This simply means using two or more elements at the same time via clones/summons/a badass Kakuzu bio and etc. Unless you have Yin/Yang training, you can't use two elemental manipulations on your own. Neither can you fuse them into one element like a KG does. To do that, yep you guessed it, also requires Yin/Yang training. This means no red lightning or blue fire, I was disappointed too z.z

Here are some visual examples of elemental combinations:

After reading this. I want you to give me your own example of one good elemental combination and one "bad" elemental combination. I want you to explain it fully.

This is straight-forward combinations, we'll come onto the more complicated stuff once you guys fully grasp the basics.

Just remember, using elemental combinations doesn't mean making Kekkei Genkai. Using Water and Lightning will create an electrified torrent of water not Storm Release.

Wood Release
Combining Water and Earth makes a new element known as Wood which supports the life. This wood is weak against Lightning because it can pierce through it. It can also be strong against Water like Earth Element. Wood has also the power to suppress Tailed Beast Chakra.

Fire-Wind Combination
So after using a Fire Jutsu, we can use a Wind Jutsu on the similiar level or below to boost it's rate of speed and damage.
Wind has oxygen which Fire requires to burn more than it used to.

Water-Lightning Combination
If the enemy were to be on a water source, i could use a certain Lightning Jutsu on the water so that it is full of electrical power. When the opponent steps on the water, he is electrified and cannot move. So i gain the advantage of attacking him. Though i must keep away from the water.

Clone Elemental Combinations
So at first, i will create 4 clones, I would use Fire and the remaining clones would use different 4 elements. The Elements powers strike at the opponent at the same time causing him severe damage. Fire burns him, Water flushes him, Wind blows him, Earth pushes him, Lightning numbs him.

Fire-Fire Combination
So first i create one clone. Then i and the clone use Fire Jutsus of the same. These Jutsu will join together and will form even more powerful form of Fire. More effective on the opponent.

This may apply for other Elements.

Ah, you're mistaken about some combinations. Using two elements together won't make any KGs, Water + Earth is not Wood. Water + Lightning is not storm.

When you combine Water and Earth, the most likely combination you make is mud. However, it really depends on how you combine the following two elements. Solid earth and water will not make mud. Soft earth/sand/mud + water will make mud.

Ask me any questions if you don't get anything.

To consolidate on basic elemental combinations, here's the list of good ones and the list of less effective ones.

Useful combinations:
Fire and Wind
Water and Wind
Earth and Fire
Fire and Lightning

Neutral combinations:
Earth and Wind

Ineffective combinations:
Wind and Lightning
Fire and Water
Earth and Lightning

Alright, for the following basic 5 combinations, I want you to explain why each of the combinations is in the following categories, if you would use them in battle and how you would use them (include the method e.g. clones/summons/etc).

Furthermore, these categories are very broad and so don't stick too strictly to them. Water and Lightning is a terrible tactic if you're streaming water from your mouth since the electricity will conduct straight into your body killing you. Its also a bad tactic to use if the lightning comes into contact with any water you're standing on. If you ever use lightning whilst on a water source, make sure it doesn't touch the water or that you jump when you fire it, so there's no way it can conduct into your body.

Wind and Lightning is another weird one. When you use two jutsus in the same direction, they don't really have the same effect as when they're opposing eachother. The wind might not insulate the lightning depending on the type of jutsu used. But then again, they could cancel eachother out. When you use this type of combination its much safer to make sure the wind and lightning don't make contact with eachother whatsoever. I don't really use this combination since its almost useless xD.

Fire and Water can be a good elemental combination. Tell me what I mean by this.

As you can see, elemental combinations aren't straight forward. Worst thing is, this is the basic stuff z.z.

Useful combinations

Fire and Wind

Fire requires oxygen to burn which Wind has. If a Ninja uses a Fire Jutsu and wants to use a Wind Jutsu, he must make sure that the Wind Jutsu is not too powerful to blow the Fire away. I will create a clone, i would use a Fire Jutsu and the clone will use Wind Jutsu

Water and Wind

The speed of the water can be boosted up with a powerful Wind Jutsu. Same with the clone as i stated above in the Fire and Wind.

Fire and Lightning

The Lightning is already hot. When both Fire and Lightning collide at the opponent, it creates a very high temperature. A clone can do the work. I will use Fire and the clone will use Lightning.

Neutral combinations

Earth and Wind

Since Earth is very strong, Wind Jutsus cannot blow it away unless it is very powerful. Soft Earth or Mud can be blown away.

Ineffective combinations

Wind and Lightning

Since Wind is an insulator of Lightning and not a conductor. They both collide and just cancel out without any effect.

Fire and Water

When Fire and Water collide, they just cancel out or turn into vapour.

Earth and Lightning

Earth is weak against Lightning since Lightning can rupture through the Earth.

Alright, a good but basic understanding of elemental combinations.

1) Earth and Fire combination.
This won't always make molten-mud or a lava like substance, it really depends on how you use it. Mud-based doton techniques and Fire techniques will definitely make pseudo-lava. However, if you're combining solid rock techniques with flames, you have to make sure you use them in conjunction and not against eachother e.g. I shoot a rock dragon at my opponent before heating it up with the same rank of flames.

If you're trying to make molten mud, make sure both your Earth technique and your Fire technique are of the same rank e.g. Both A-Rank.

2) Water and Fire combination
Like you both correctly said, this could prove to be a very useful combo. The heat of the flames would cause this to become gaseous water (steam) which you can use to your advantage. It can be used for cover to hide your presence, to singe/burn the opponent on contact and so on. If your opponent has some way of sensing/seeing you but you can't sense/see them, clear the mist with a wide wind technique. It will passively clear the mist as well as attack your opponent, making it a win-win situation.

3) Wind/Lightning, Earth/Wind and Earth/Lightning combinations.
Yeah, they're not the most useful, unless you find a way to make these combinations supplement your fighting style, I recommend avoiding these xD.

4) Water/Wind and Fire/Wind combination
If you're continuously streaming any of these techniques (e.g. a torrent of water gushing from your mouth), you definitely need a clone/summon to use the other technique. Also, make sure the jutsus you will help eachother instead of hindering one another. What I mean by this is, using a wave of water with slicing blades of wind won't do you any good. However, using a stream of wind will augment the speed and force at which the water technique will travel. If your stream of wind is too destructive or uncontrollable, chances are it will disperse your water technique or just make it weaker in general. Overall, I find using a S-Rank Water better than using a S-Rank Water/Wind. In the same way, a S-Rank Fire is better than using a S-Rank Fire/Wind. They're still equal in power, I just find them easier and quicker to use in battles compared to combination jutsus.

After you read this and fully understand it, ask me any and every question that comes to mind. The moment we finish up, you're going to join my other training thread with my other two students since it seems more fun to train people in groups.

Here's the thread, post whenever your ready. Also, follow my newest instruction on the thread -
