You thought it was all over. You thought we had all died. But you forgot about one of us.

She brushed her hair out of her eyes, the sweat beaded on her brow, her arms swung with her momentum as she ran. She kept running, it looked like a dead end, but she wasn't being held back now. She could move as agile as she liked. The alley ended in a high brick wall, but it didn't stop her. As she jumped, she kicked her right leg into the corner of the wall, rubber sole building friction and gripping it with ease. Her thigh tightened up as she pushed off the wall hurling herself up higher.

At first she thought she was going to miss it, her index finger managed to catch though and she quickly wrapped her hand around the bottom rung of the fire escape ladder. The muscles in her hand became tense as it supported her weight. Fortunately she was nimble and able to begin pulling herself up. Something had latched onto her foot though, and she began kicking wildly.

"Let me go you freak!" She gasped, exhaling to catch her breathing.

She continued to climb, the zombie clinging to her foot all the while. If she was going to get anywhere, she would have to break it's grip on her, and so she began to sway like a pendulum. She had climbed just high enough that the zombie's feet were off the ground and so it swayed too.

Picking up momentum, the ghoul's grip already began to weaken. She made one final thrust with her body, the flesh on the decaying couldn't hand on any longer and was torn free. An inhuman smacking sound occurred as the zombie slammed into a wall. Brittle bones were heard cracking, the sound echoing around he alleyway.

She wasn't distracted by the gore though, her lust for survival was overwhelming and she continued to climb. As she reached the first interval she took a rest. There was a window leading in doors, but to what she didn't want to find out. Especially not in that dark looking apartment. After a moments rest, she took a moment to gaze below her. Then ten or so zombies that were chasing her had grown into twenty.

"Damn, where can I go now?" She spoke softly to herself.

All she wanted to do was live, and get out of this cursed mess. There had to be civilization left, and she would surely find it. As she was about to begin climbing again, her peripheral vision caught movement in the hotel room. She paused, kneeling down and for some reason hoping to not be seen.

Unfortunately, whoever or whatever it was in the apartment had seen her and was beginning to move towards the window. She hoped it wasn't another zombie, she was getting tired of dealing with those undead freaks.

As the figure drew closer, it's silhouette slowly came into focus, forming the figure of a man. He looked normal at first glance, and even healthy which was a rare thing to find so many years after the initial outbreak. The man was definitely alive, and pulled the window up.

"Just what in the hell are you doing on the balcony? Don't tell me you brought those zombies here with you? Hurry up inside will you, they may go away." The man walked away from the window to allow her passage.

Hushed voices inside made it obvious there were more people. She sat down on the window ledge, allowing her legs to dangle inside, then dropping herself to her feet. The room became uncomfortably quiet, though she imagined it felt the same for the other people. It couldn't be too often a complete stranger drops in through their window from nowhere.

As she came into the candle light inside, the man got a better look at her,. She wasn't very big, probably around a hundred fifty centimeters, give or take a few depending on the shoes she was wearing. What the man could tell though, was that she was physically fit. Probably from running and living on her own for quite some time. This made him uneasy, as those were the people who were riddled with insanity. Though, her green eyes gave him a warming feeling, as though she were an alright girl. The hefty blood stained fire ax on her back, and small hatchet on her hip accompanied by sewn leather armor gave off a different vibe.

"Just who the hell are you, and why are you here?" The man put on a front trying to act tough. Though it was rather obvious just how feeble he had been, living in shelter all these years.

The girl standing before him just shook her head before responding as cool as she could, "Some people used to call me Lawliet." The way she brushed her hair out of her face as she spoke made her seem so damn cool.

The man seemed surprised she was this calm about having just escaped a pack of zombies. "How do you do it? Survive out there like that? Always running, never having a good nights rest."

Lawliet stood there, looking at the other people gather around. In this day and age entertainment was very alluding. She figured she had enticed them with her recent run-in with the undead, she might as well oblige them and tell her story.

"Well," Lawliet decided to take a seat for this long story, "It all began the initial day. We were at a party and things were going great. I was a global moderator, just living the normal life. Unfortunately, our party was crashed by one of the firsts."

The group had already transcended upon her, and were awestruck by the story she had only just begun.

She continued "It went from nonstop fun to complete pandemonium. There was panic, and nobody knew how things worked yet. Most people tried to fight back, or cowered in fear in corners. Not our group though, we decided the best thing to do would be to get out of there." She decided to skip ahead through the story a bit, "we survived as a group for several days looking for a place for refuge. Then a merged zombie, we called it Zombitu, had appeared."

A small child with a dumbfounded grin jumped up and shouted out "And you defeated it by yourself with your big ax, didn't you?"

His mother hushed him, so she could continue the story.

Lawliet simply smiled before going on, "Not quite, in fact I should have been it's victim. Fortunately though, the merged zombie began quelling over who would have which parts of me. I used this opportunity of distraction to escape. Unfortunately, I had no way of finding out where the others had gone and was desperately in need of shelter."

Somebody had brought her water, it looked clean so she took a heavy gulp of it before continuing with her story "As luck would have it, I found a small building. It seemed somewhat like a bunker and so I hid in it." She hesitated for a moment before continuing. "Inside that bunker, I found a radio, and it was fixed to an emergency broadcast."

Her memories brought her back to that bunker. The cold cement walls, damp with the days humidity seeping in through minuscule cracks and aided by the concrete's ability to absorb liquids. Her eyes slowly adapted to the dark as she observed her surroundings. It was apparently some kind of power substation.

In the corner, electricity hummed inside of a small box. The power was out, but that radio was functioning perfectly. Upon further investigation she discovered it was battery operated. She quickly began playing with it, soon discovering that emergency broadcast.

Yet, her neck tingled. Something was wrong with the broadcast, it was broken up and disorderly. She began to lose hope that there was going to be an emergency rescue. Though something else bothered her, she figured it was the concern for her fellow survivors.

Something moved in the darkness. She began to panic, backing up slowly into a dead end. The figure approached her, a heaving wheeze as a ghastly moan escaped it's lips. She began fumbling around herself for any kind of weapon. She knew now a bible wouldn't suffice.

In the dark she couldn't see what she was reaching for, but her right hand clasped some ind of plastic handle. It was just in time too, because as soon as she began swinging the object forward the being was upon her, knocking her to the ground. As her back impacted the ground, her breath was knocked out her. She began to panic even further, trying to catch her breath and wrestle the freak off of her.

He panting turned into sobs as she believed this would be the moment she would die. Yet, the zombie quit fighting back. Lawliet's eyes had seized shut as tight as possible, yet she dared to slowly open one. As vision began to return through the cloudy tears, she could see the handle of the object she had grabbed. It was a screwdriver of some sort, and it was wedged into the zombie's skull.

Lawliet had never hurt anybody in her life, she kept trying to tell herself it wasn't human. The dead eyes staring emptily into hers seemed so unreal, almost like glass. With all her willpower, she brought forward the strength to push the zombie off of her.

Unfortunately, she lacked anymore willpower to get up, and so she rolled in the opposite direction and stared into the darkness. For the first time in a while, she found herself sound asleep.

"Incredible! So you were really strong back then too!" The boy cried out again, so excited by her story.

As his mother hushed him again, Lawliet only smiled and continued, "That was the true beginning of my journey. That's where I finally began surviving. Before I was being carried, but I refused to be carried and decided from then on I would carry myself."

The rest of the group nodded in agreement, some muttering words among one another. Lawliet really did wish she could find the rest of her group. Yet, she knew deep down inside that they probably weren't out there anymore. She wiped a tear from her eye, a tear containing fond memories of friends and companions, and a life she would never live again.

This is Great! I was forced to say that. T___T
Well done! I loved this ending. I can really picture that as being the beginning of a revolution.
Loved it.
