Bare with me.. (see what I did there? lol)

The question I wanted to put out there is when Obito gains the power of Sage of the Six Path's/Juubi, he is depicted with a part haori (it looked like petals to me around the top), staff and bare feet. I found this interesting because it showed to me someone at there most powerful actually being more vulnerable than ever with the nakedness and bare feet. I mentioned this to a friend and he says that Japanese culture denotes bare feet as a sign of wisdom-not vulnerability.

Is anyone clued up the cultural significance of this?
Just curious! :p

I'm not sure about the wisdom part, but the more exposed someone is the more vulnerable they are, in order to make up for this power is needed

The way I see it, exposure = power (implied that is)

Well, maybe you could say it was symbolic to Obito's emotional vulnerability. When you think about it, Obito didn't hold much wisdom, he was blindly falling into Madara's trap and trying to abandon the world for an imaginary world so he could interact with his lost, 12 year old love. He was also emotionally vulnerable later on in his inner conflict with Naruto and his former self

On the other hand, wiser, more experienced vessels with no emotional vulnerability of the Juubi, such as Madara and Hagoromo wore more clothes and had some type of footwear(at least I believe Hagoromo does)

Thank you for your smart and well-thought out answer! :ilu: I saw it as a hint to the Talk no Jutsu that was coming.. bare feet are also shown in Japan when visiting someones home, as Naruto truly does visit Obito's personal home of memories. He didn't look pleased to be in that form either, I think with the little control of self he has he's been looking for answers and was glad when Naruto came up with them.
Or maybe he just wanted to borrow that power for a bit and go for a run on the beach! lol
I'm also thinking Madara's plan isn't really the Tskuyomi, I think he has darker things in mind, but we'll see. Madara is like raising the devil at Stonehenge if you ask me, even Obito called Kabuto a madman for raising him.

Also it's less about Rin than people think. During the Talk no Jutsu he's more concerned with discussing with Naruto which is the right path for the world in it's present state, even after the TnJ he re-affirms this by asking Kakashi if he's sure to about Naruto's plan. He made a promise to Rin, and that's what the importance is to him. I actually think he prefer's Kakashi, or else why not leave Rin his eye, and "See the future" with her.

You're welcome. I just went over some elements of indirect characterization and characterizing personalities in literature based on their description(Or in the case of this manga, drawings)in my Honors English class today, so I figured that I'd try to relate it here :D

And that's an interesting way of thinking about it, Obito being glad that Naruto stopped him. You may have a point there, it was hinted at by Kakashi that Obito was searching for enlightenment through Naruto. And as for Madara, there most likely is a darker agenda, turning the world's populace into slaves or something, like Hagoromo said his mother's Genjutsu would do.
