[Suggestion] Banning registration is going to hurt the site

Banning registration is not a good idea... it could really hurt the site if people who lost there passwords can't sign up, or new people who want to join the community. Over the years the members could stop coming and then the site could die or be very little members.

So closing registration is a really bad idea. But this is just a suggestion do as you like.

People who forget their passwords can use Forgot Password? thing. People are misusing by creating several Alts, this is one of the reasons for removing the registration. However, it is good that this is temporary.

And i have a Skype account.
If anyone loses their account.
They can use the skype button to contact me and gain one of my alts
Edit: I am going to ask them to give their real account name and then check if they aint banned.

I think Versuvio is his announcement stated that this isn't a permanent decision. I am pretty sure I saw another administrator saying this to a similar thread.
As I see it, this is a way to minimize alt accounts, since most of them are created for trolling. It's part of the process of cleaning up the the base. It will do more good than bad in the future, be patient.

I thinks it's a pretty good idea, since it minimises the creation of troll accounts since whenever people get banned they use their alts to annoy mods (ask them why they get banned and all) and significantly use them for trolling .....well if u forget ur password use the forgot my password lol button loooool

You should read the announcement properly. It is a temporary measure. Not a permanent one.

Also if you had read the thread made about this same issue just a few days ago:

Well this is because people are harming the whole community, and we simply don't have enough people working on the site to maintain it. It's been a free site, but you kind of had this to the option of shutting the whole site down. We are working for free, and we get to take a enormous amount of threats and we get flamed on a daily basis. And we just want to let you know that we have worked for years to build NB to what it is. And since people won't stop this nonsense we saw no other way.

I suggest you guys start to follow the rules if you want to stay on the site. We don't know how long we will keep registration down, but it will probably be for quite some time, so get used to it.

Just wanted to add something to Zise's reply.

We have reached the point that we are more concerned with the quality of the discussions than with the quantity of them. This is what we have been working for for the last 5 years. Now it is the time to closely moderate the forums in order to ensure that this is a community that we can all enjoy being part of, free of trolls, alts and spam, and to reflect and work on our future plans.

It is a temporary measure as V mentioned in his announcement so there's no reason for a fuss about it. Most of you that called this an idiotic idea or posted that you can't understand why we are doing this are the same people that have been complaining non stop lately over repetitive threads, personal insults from other members, low quality of discussions and trolls.

We take NB seriously and we believe our decision to be the right one given the circumstances. If nothing else, now we all got the time to get to know each other a bit better.

And we have this thing called I.ps, and if we find out you have been aiding another with the use of an alt to bypass a ban or break any forum rules you can expect to be banned yourself. And don't think you'll be allowed back- because registrations are closed.
