Earlier I had a debate with my Korean friend about Bank careers vs Government/Federal careers. He said banks are better since he wants to be a Financial Advisor for Wells Fargo. I think banks do pay more than federal jobs and have a lot more scope for growth. But I also think Government jobs are more relaxed and no one gets fired. What do you guys all think?

How scandalous, Perhaps he should choice another bank.
Government Jobs vary, there are custodial government jobs, they aren't all just cubicles. However, Government work does have great benefits that some banks may not offer. But working for the government doesn't always mean you are a government worker, you can be a contractor with little to no benefits.

Jobs like this basically indicate that 10% of the people are doing 90% of the work. It's a bit of a toxic environment if you're expecting to climb the ladder based on merit rather than seniority. There are good benefits, but because of that, workers feel the need to stay at their job to support their families rather than transfer to a position more to their liking. Not to say that you can't like a government job, but many people seem to grow tired of the bureaucracy after a while. I've never actually seen this for myself, by the way, I'm just echoing what I hear from other sources.

From what I have heard and read, yes they do have good benefits. But I heard some of their workers are corrupt.

I haven't heard good things about working at Wells Fargo, to be honest. Quite the opposite. Maybe Femme knows more about that judging by her comment.

I work with some government contractors and such... I can see how it would get old after a while. Especially if you're working with military, it's very hard for contractors to respect someone's rank and not the person themselves. That's just my experience though. Take it how you will.

Government definitely. Better Stability, variety, pension and advancement. There's cons obviously but if you just want those it's the logical one.imo
