For everybody splitting hairs over the country of origin, knock it off. Anime should be looked at as a style of cartoon because that's all it is. They're all cartoons. American cartoons rarely use anime style of art but when they do they should be considered anime for 2 reasons. 1. They're usually done by Asian studios and yes Avatar is as well, if you bothered to do any research DR Movie is a Korean company that works with Japanese companies on anime as is Moi Animation. Boondocks is also produced in a South Korean studio, both of these titles are from creators in the US but the art and production is handled over seas. 2. They usually carry on the general anime concepts especially Avatar in the theme of friendship and teamwork and training etc.
Anime are cartoons and manga are comics they're just a sub genre and should be judged by style not point of origin. Saying an American can't make an anime or manga is like saying an Asian can't make a comic book or cartoon, well go tell that to Frank Cho or Jim Lee.
