Don't want to read the manga? Don't want to watch the anime? Have at least 15 minutes to spare?
Watch her videos. Meapheandjunk is an American elementary school teacher teaching English in Japan. She's currently (at the time of writing) in the Skypeia Arc right now.
How did she get into One Piece?
Curious what her students were talking about in class, she asked her students what it was about. They told her about One Piece, and they had some sort of bargain I don't remember. So she tuned in at 10 am Eastern Time Tokyo, Japan on an early Sunday morning to see what the buzz was all about. She caught up on Luffy's flashback (yes it comes late in the series) and just pieced info from her high-school level Japanese. Being interested (partly because everywhere she goes OP is there) she then naturally watched a few more episodes and watched Movie 10 with her brother.
Now she's doing in-depth reviews every 5 episodes. And yes, she finds it more interesting than FMA, Cowboy Bebop, and Death Note, 3 iconic series in the western anime fandom .. well, mostly just in the US but you get my point.
I think you can drop the 'One Piece is for children' argument now
EDIT: Keep in mind that she has never heard of One Piece until that incident, so we're basically seeing a fan in progress here. With no negative opinions or feedback to stop her from watching, I think she's reviewing pretty well for a newbie.
