I pretty much agree. Kishi literally made the hype pretty much unbunkable without sounding like a hater. Yatas power being a hyperbole? Probably, but unprovable. Can itachi be beaten by someone under normal circumstances? Yes but sure as hell its never been shown. Most hype trains(such as minato) had scenes where you could bring them down a peg and prove its just hype, but itachi? Good luck finding that manga proof, and therein lies the genius of it imo
That's because there are literally no bad moments for Itachi in the manga. None. The closest thing is him retreating from Jiraiya, and that can be justified greatly by the reveal that he was still loyal to Konoha. Well, you can still use the "I failed" scan for some credit, but...what does that even prove. Its ridiculous how biased the author is towards his own creation. And thus the hype train went out of control to the point where, if Itachi was the main character, he would be a textbook example for a mary sue.

Oh, well. Nothing to do about it now,

He is simply written that way, but that doesn't mean he's written right. The one thing that prevents the character of Itachi being completely perfect is his one defect...preferring to work alone. That's it. And it barely even passes as a bad thing. His defeat to Sasuke is just another matter to hype him for, showing that a severely ill Itachi holding back gave his brother a very high dif win. And the Kabuto one...geez, Izanami is so obviously phoned in. While its usually the other way around, in that one occasion, plot itself decided to bend in and give Itachi a never mentioned before technique that fit in exactly the situation he was in...you cannot say that was not an asspull.

And the worst thing is that Itachi was so close to being my favourite character in the series. So close. The one thing that changes this entirely is that Kishimoto decided that, to the end, Itachi had to be perfect. That is the very reason I appreciate Shouto Todoroki (Character in both my signature and avatar) so much. He is very, very similar to Itachi...except everything I came to despise about this character turned into appreciation due to very small details added in by the author. It is amazing how different my opinion towards them both stand considering how similar their personalities are.
Its just simply unfair isnt?

How your fave and everyone else pales in comparison to He Who Cannot Be Soled :hs:
