Being up-to-date with the manga(issue 45) I'd like to give my take on things.

Eren father is a HUGE key player(enemy of the citadel), wouldn't be surprised if he is the big hairy one(still, that hairy one was surprised to find the 3d gear, so that's a no-but maybe he never saw it before in action-)

The titans are engineered, they lack reproductive organs, this is done by people who somehow knew how to control the titans. They actually listen to some of the intelligent ones(read: like the hairy one). Eren father is/will be found out to be quite knowledgeable on this matter, if not the progenitor(or along the lineage of the original one).

Eren, Annie, Ymir, Berthold and Reiner(and more) are second generation Titans... some aware of what they are, and trained by the predecessors: the first generation. Other will find out about their powers. Eren's power will be the ability to shape his body.

I wouldn't be surprised if Annie and Eren are half brother and sister(HUGE SPOILER, I think the writer is inspired with Greek mythology, and if you are acquainted: those stories go pretty Shakespearean with the family ties. So there will be a triangle Eren-Mikasa-Annie thing going on... Annie will be TnJ'd be Armin later on.

The Titans in the walls are for the safekeeping of the human race, not to protect the flock, but to save some when the time comes. See it like Noah's arc-which bring me to the last thing: the walls are one huge prison for the humans... Berthold, Reiner, and probably Annie(I don't think she's in the same league-might be- with the latter) will want to bring down the Church, and the Aristocrats-who are keeping the budgets in check so that the army doesn't advance too fast too soon.

Thank you for your contribution. Sorry you don't like the manga. Personally I find it a bit annoying as well that some characters die off like blossoms on a cherry tree, but I find it quite rejuvenating to read about this manga. Artwork is really artwork-rough anatomical sketches that are the titans, and scribbled characters in front of detailed building...

I believe that the Titans were a biological weapon created by humans. As they were developing these beings, they accidentally gave some a consciousness.

The Titan's broke free and fleed to return and annihilate man kind. We already know that there are people that know about the Titans and most likely why they are even here. I think the Titan's aren't reproducing, they turn the human's they eat into Titans like when that one guy (forgot his name) saw a dead titan that looked just like his mom

Eren's Dad was probably one of the scientists in this or was studying the process and made his own way of harnessing a Titan's power. When Eren's mom dies, he gives Eren some kind of needle with the titan powers in it believing that Eren will learn to control them and go back to the basement to find out the truth

Another theory is that the Titans were gods and that humans disobeyed them making them angry (kinda lame)

Another : During a war, humans created Titans to fight against other humans, the people that live in the walls (most of them) don't know that there are still other humans there that are trying to kill them. Some of them are given Titan powers so they can help breach the walls so the other Titans can go do the work (eat the people)

They find out that there is a human with Titan powers on the enemy's side so they kidnap Eren to use him against his own people

Nice thoughts... still I think Eren's dad knew Berthold an Reiner were coming... He even might have ordered the attack, and even set the condition for eren and Mikasa's past... there a reason why he's staying away as well...

tbh, I do believe Eren's father is playing a big part in this. He may be the one who gave the others the ability to transform to titans, its not that far fetched. Reiner and Berthold are probably taking Eren back to his father or some other place related to his father, since he has been missing and obviously has some part to do with the titan transformations. Eren's father probably released the material through the air into Connie's home town,which supposedly turned the people into titans. And I think Titan Shifters have been around longer than humans..probably coexisted with titans before humans. Then when humans came to be, the titan shifters created walls by using their hardening ability.

Just my thoughts.

Titans eat humans for no other apparent purpose than killing them. eventually fills up with what they swallow, forcing them to regurgitate in time to continue eating.

It's clear that Eren's father has a large role in the events that have taken place so far. I've heard a lot of theories about the hairy titan being either Eren's father or Levi, but I disagree with both options, because that would be inconsistent with the hairy titan's behavior. The hairy titan is more likely a separate race from mankind and that can control the human-like titans. The hairy titan when questioning Mike mentions that he thought they spoke the same language. I doubt any human titan shifter would say that. And in general the hairy titan speaks in a removed, curious manner, like a child that saw an interesting insect. I don't know if that makes the titan overlords (hairy titans) aliens or what, but I get the feeling that there are two factions that are using titans for their own ends. The titan overlords and the wall cult in the inner lands. I think that Eren's father is involved with the wall cult, probably a high level member, working on human - titan hybrids. However, why would the humans attack the city? Well I think for political reasons. If you think back on the beginning of the story, when the colossal titan originally attacks the wall 5 years before, the people were miffed about supporting the scouting expeditions and paying military taxes. Because of the attack all that has changed, now everyone is pro military and back to fighting the good fight.

In the most recent chapter, 46, Reiner mentions that they don't have to attack humanity anymore when talking with Eren. Later Ymir explains why this is. She states that their objective now is to capture the hairy titan. This adds more weight to the whole overlords vs wall cultists hypothesis. Also in this chapter Ymir chastises Eren for picking on two small fries, Reiner and Bertl. Then later emphasizes this when she mentions that if Eren were to kill both of them it wouldn't stop the invasions. At this point Reiner cuts Ymir off before she can tell Eren what person or group is the true threat.

Ymir seems to be the real key to this. She was present at the attack on Reiner and Bertl's home village. She can read ancient alphabets as seen in the castle sequence when she reads ancient print on some canned herring. She knew about Christa being Historia. Also as noted here by others, Ymir name is used in an earlier chapter by one of the rare occurrences of a titan talking, mistaking a female soldier for one Ymir-sama.

So, yeah I don't have any definitive theories right now. Mostly questions. Here are some, maybe I'll post more later.

1. Why do the titans look like humans, but have a very different internal structure and metabolism? (one answer, possibly from a different branch of the evolutionary tree, like a separate line of hominids)

2. Why do titans eat people when they don't need to eat? (so far it seems purely to torture and demoralize. Shock and awe warfare.)

3. Why do some of the titans speak, but not intelligently, mostly in fragments and have sometimes resemble dead people?
(Connie's village was attacked but there were no signs of blood, only destroyed buildings as if the entire village transformed into titans while in there beds. Possibly they became the titans that attacked Ymir at the castle. Maybe the overlords can turn men into titans for fodder soldiers)

4. You would think that if titans eat people, and people are the base materials used to make titans, that all titans could change back into people like the titan hybrids and that people devoured by titans and regurgitated would be the way they reproduce/make titans, but that's not the case. How do people become titans? (I think that it might have something to do with the titan overlords playing a similar role as the overlords in the TV series Falling Skys, where the alien overlords gather humans to turn into genetically modified slaves superior to humans. Making a sort of instant army without having to draft their own race. When an animal, usually insects, lack reproductive organs or the ability to reproduce, they're generally a specialized class of insect (drones) or a biological deadend (mule, liger, etc.). Still scratching my head over this.)

5. Why do the titan hybrids have to injure themselves to conjure enter titan mode?

6. What's the process for hybrids to enter titan mode? (Seems like they're summoning the body from out of thin air, which is illogical and goes against the laws of nature)
