Hajime Isayama's "Attack on Titan" has been stomping all over the U.S. manga market, with volume No. 1 taking over the top spot on The New York Times' manga bestseller list for the week ending Oct. 12.

Volume No. 2 ranked second on the list, followed by volume No. 7 at fourth place and volume No. 3 occupying fifth place.

Many of titles covered in the list are from Japan. Recently, more widely known comics such as "Naruto" and "Sailor Moon" took the top spot on the list, but it was the first time for "Attack on Titan" to rise to the preeminent spot.

Volume No. 1 of "Attack on Titan," which is about young people fighting a hopeless battle against human-devouring titans, also ranked fourth in the September list of Nielsen BookScan's Top 20 Graphic Novels released by pop culture news website ICv2 on Oct. 4.

Volume No. 1 of "Sailor Moon Short Stories" ranked first on the list that also covers U.S. comics, followed by volume No. 9 of "The Walking Dead Book" coming in second place and volume No. 62 of "Naruto" taking the third spot.

But volume No. 2 of "Attack on Titan" also ranked seventh, with volume No. 6 claiming the ninth spot. Volumes No. 3 and No. 7 ranked 16th and 18th places, respectively.

Kodansha U.S.A. Publishing, LLC. said at Comic-Con in New York on Oct. 11 that the English-language "Attack on Titan" series has sold more than half a million copies in North America. Given the fact that the U.S. comic book market is about seven times smaller than the Japanese market, those numbers show that the manga series is a huge hit in the United States.

In Japan, the original nine volumes of "Attack on Titan" sold a total of 12 million copies. But, the animated TV series adaptation that went to air this past April has made it even more popular. The series' 10 books sold more than 22 million copies as of July. The anime version is streamed online in the United States.

Read it as best seller instead of manga best seller.... doesn't matter as it's epic either way.

I like this thread.... it's better than the last one I was on.
