The Atavistic Flame (Kaen Kakkusei Iden), also called the “unconscious” collective Will of Mankind, Flame of the Atavism, or the Human Principle, is a property intrinsic to all human souls. It was discovered roughly eight thousand years ago on the continent of Kamiyasumi by the Monks of the Human Order, a monastery dedicated toward the ideology to end human dependence on the gods after Marduk and his Pantheon left the world. Its original name, conferred by the monks that discovered it, was the Human Principle; though as years elapsed its name eventually morphed into the Atavistic Flame, to burn away humanity’s origins. Although all humans possess this quality it takes considerable time and training to harness, weaponize, and master it. It was eventually used by Marzan to forge the God-Slaying Tools; he would go on to become a legendary blacksmith.
Atavistic Flame is a uniquely ‘human’ property of the soul, intimately connected with the spirit, spirituality, and spiritual energy, though it is not Yin Release as it is not connected to Chakra in any sense. Because it is intrinsic to the souls created by Nergal its properties cannot be replicated through external abilities, including Yin Release and even Utu, a skill capable of replicating souls.
Visually Atavistic Flame appears as a yellow fire with an orange center. Its volatility is typically determined by techniques used or by the user, capable of exploding against physical targets with ease. Despite being a product of the user’s soul and spirit its source of damage is strictly physical. The flame doubles as a source of spiritual healing, though only usable on human targets; the user is also to wrap targets in the flames, healing their soul or spirit from damage inflicted by Yin Release or Utu. This spiritual healing is effectively stronger against spiritual damage inflicted by Utu and gains an effective 20 increased healing when recovering spiritual health lost by Utu techniques.
Atavistic Flame is an extremely strong and efficient counter to Suen, Utu, and Anutu. The first, and most important, capability of Atavistic Flame is that is able to pierce the effects of the Divine impairments caused by Anutu. By extension this also means that the Atavistic Flame is capable of penetrating Divinity used by strong enemies in the Ninja World. When interacting directly with an Anutu, Suen, or Utu technique Atavistic Flame bases its interaction on effective Chakra (B-Rank Atavistic techniques have 20, A-Rank 30, S-Rank 40, etc). Against other fields typical interactions apply. The strength of the field against Anutu depends on the user’s mastery with it, divided into three separate usage proficiencies. The first is an Initiate, the second is Master, and the third is Grandmaster. Initiates have a 20 Chakra advantage against Anutu while Masters and Grandmasters have 40.
The field is overall classified as a Mode. Many of its abilities and techniques can be used outside of its mode, but the pinnacle of strength and versatility is achieved when entering the Will to Survive; the Will to Survive is similar to Sage Mode in that the user burns away resources to sustain the mode and techniques in it. However, unlike in Sage Mode where the resource is Senjutsu and is achieved by blending Natural Energy and Chakra, the resource used in the Will to Survive is strictly the user's spiritual health. There are three stages to the Will to Survive; Hollow Flame, Blaze, and Inferno.

Abilities:
- Atavistic Flame costs no Chakra to use; instead, it draws on the spirit and soul of the user, with most techniques causing self-inflicted spiritual damage.
- Because the Atavistic Flame is tied to the survival of humanity and its will to persevere its usage will also spiritually heal the user slowly over time, acting as a counterbalance to its self-inflicted spiritual damage.
- Like Suen and Utu, the Atavistic Flame cannot be sealed, drained, or absorbed. It also cannot be replicated or stolen in any way.
- Atavistic Flame is significantly strong to Anutu and its subfields, gaining effective Chakra in clashes depending on the user’s proficiency and rank within the field.
- Grandmasters of Atavistic Flame may submit techniques with higher damage.
- Possesses intrinsic Anti-Divinity, identically to the God-Slaying Tools.
Restrictions:
- Biographies that use Atavistic Flame must be human. This means that biographies like Otsutsuki cannot use Atavistic Flame. Children of Tiamat can use it despite being mutated humans.
- Typically, Chakra-based techniques cannot be combined with the Atavistic Flame as it is itself devoid of Chakra.
- Biographies that possess Atavistic Flame cannot make use of Anutu.
- Atavistic Flame is designated as a Mode.
- Canon characters can have Atavistic Flame if they have only 1 KG/AE/HA on their bio. If they have a Mode or are considered Tier 4+, they cannot have a custom Mode unless they achieve it through a Special Mission.
- Upon gaining the skill the user begins at the Initiate rank. This costs 10,000 Kumi. Master rank requires 20,000 Kumi after completing Initiate training. Grandmaster rank requires the user complete a Forbidden ranked Ninja World Ability Mission that can only be undertaken three months after obtaining Master.
- The Grandmaster level is unique to the biography it was obtained on through Ninja World mission.
- Will to Survive and the resource pool it creates cannot be increased through customs by any means.
